"Imagine my surprise to see the bright towers of Camelot itself! I took the photo from the car as we were heading back to Los Angeles from Las Vegas. Wikipedia tells me that every evening at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino there's a medieval jousting tournament performed with 12 breeds of horses in King Arthur's Arena. It includes a banquet feast served by a costumed serf or wench and is meant to be eaten without utensils.
"So is this is the place to go to experience the setting of Camelot and Vine? Maybe not, but I think you should have your book-signing party there."
Not a bad idea, Bellis. We'll carpool.

Oh, this one is great!! Love the book signing idea.
This looks so vibrant and cheerful. Nice one, Bellis! And what a great idea about the book signing. Not sure about the carpooling, though. I had a fleeting 'Thelma & Louise' vision of you and Bellis in my head, Petrea.
Very nice!!.. btw surprised no one has come up w/the castle from Disneyland!?
So bizarrely cool.
I suppose it's best to stay in the Pasadena area for the book release party. I'll have a better chance of getting people to come if I have it in a town where I know people! Do we have a castle in town? (Though my king might be more at home camping in the wilderness.)
Disneyland is so expensive, KBF, and crowded. Maybe now that we're past Labor Day.
Could there be such a thing as a virtual, or on-line book party? One where your blog-friends and admirers might join in? All that would be missing would be the real books, real autographs and real champagne. Damn. Maybe we could all meet at a designated time over frou-frou coffee drinks gotten from our favorite shops and submit on-line orders for copies of your book?
That is crazy! I had no idea Camelot was so popular. You're right, P. It's everywhere!
Speedway! You are some kind of genius! I love you! I'll figure something out. We'll do that and it'll be a grand hoot.
Susan, I've ruined you. Now you'll never stop seeing it.
Oh, thank you Ms. P. While we're at it, maybe all these castle-themed photos might be enlarged and displayed as a part of the festive proceedings - with appropriate permission from the photographers, if needed?
I'll submit my Camelot next week. I'm waiting for shinier, sunny weather to get a good shot.
Can't wait to see it.
That is too scary for words!
Ha!
Fun to have a Camelot I've visited---
Oh, Dive, I think Las Vegas would kill you with kitsch. I'm only 29 and look how it aged me.
Des, last time I was in Vegas they'd just completed construction on this place!
Do I love Las Vegas...you 'bet' I do! What a great choice. Another super photo. I can just feel the dry heat that accompanies that blue sky.
HaHaHa!!! Of course!!! Hope my pic's not in competition with Bellis'!!! It's been a few years since I've been to Vegas...can't say I've ever been to this Camelot!!!
Count me in for the virtual book signing!!! And keep me posted for the in person one too!!!
LOL, no kidding. We think we live in the desert here in Pasadena but you don't know dry heat until you head out Nevada way.
Chieftess, your shot is all kitsch!
Camelot is everywhere and I almost crashed the car when I saw something outside a store on North Fair Oaks today. Well, I guess someone else will have to enter it.
I hate that place. It's not worthy of the title kitche. Signaled the end of Vegas as I loved it - when Vegas adopted a family friendly approach and came up with this behemoth of cinderblock.
Petrea, if this was the last time you were in Vegas, you might remember the vacant lots around these junkyards. All filled in now. There's no longer the excitement one once saw as they drove into Vegas, bright lights and neon.
Love you Bellis, but hate this place. And yes, thats how I really feel.
Me too! Had to stay the night there as my son wanted to show it to his wife. They wanted to leave as quickly as possible the next morning, which is why I could only take a drive-by photo. It's amazing how crowded it is - tourists from all over the world.
That's a fun photo!
Of course this would be in Las Vegas....
I really don't remember, PA. It was so long ago. I did have fun but never had the desire to return.
It sounds like they've cleansed the rat pack out of the place.
At first glance I thought this was a Lego castle; nope, just Vegas. Great out-of-the-car-window photo!
Last time I was in Vegas, they were in the middle of constructing this place, but I did get to see Sinatra at Bally's!
So many good castle entries!
Love it, well done!
GOod one Bellis!!!
