Should've Checked the Love Meter

It had gotten to the point where I was embarrassed to be seen in my darling car.

I don't have a preference when it comes to car washes in Pasadena. Do you? If so, let me know. I've only tried a couple and I tend to stick with convenience and price.

The Walnut-Hill Car Wash (on Walnut at Hill) doesn't get a whole lot of stars on Yelp but I've never had a problem there. They have this Something Wicked This Way Comes arcade that captures my fancy, if not my quarters.

I am so glad they don't have those arcades anywhere near anything I do or I'd be obsessively running between the scale, the gypsy and "how sexy are you" looking for reassurance for my media-fed insecurities. Yes, I believe the scale! Yes, yes, I will take the gypsy's word about my fate. YES, YES, Yes, I will run home and cry for hours because an effing machine told me I am neuter to men.

Those machines look so tempting, especially the Baseball one on the right. I've used that car wash a few times - isn't it the one where the men are in yellow raincoats washing the cars by hand in the water spray? I feel a bit sorry for them, though it's probably quite pleasant in this heat. (btw, it's not on Colorado).

Speedway, I wonder if anyone really does take these things seriously. They're about as effective as the tin cans the Scientologists use to test new recruits.

Bellis, I didn't see any raincoats. The men were all wearing blue. Woops! I have to change the copy but if I do, your comment won't make sense. Ouch. Now what? It's obviously at Walnut and Hill as the name suggests.

Oh, moral dilemma. Well, I said it was on Colorado which it obviously is not, and Bellis set me straight so I fixed it. Thank you, Bellis.

I'm so embarrassed by my car's condition, I don't want my pet-sitter to see it. WHEN I get to a car wash, I prefer the simplicity and general quality of the one at Arroyo and California. (The one time I went to Walnut-Hill I actually returned and had them re-wash the windows - takes a lot to get me to return to a car wash!)

I love the Accurate Weight machine. Wish my doctor's office one looked like it.

Betty (not BettyS but Betty) says:

Don't know if you are a senior or not, but some have senior days (noted). The tradeoff is the extra crowd on those days. Sometimes speedier service is worth a few bucks.

The Walnut-Hill car wash ruined the paint on my nearly new Honda a few years ago and did nothing about it. Very rude management.

I used to like the car wash that is on the south side of Colorado east of Allen - cannot remember the name, but at that time the Pasadena PD also took its cars there. Senior day is Wednesday and I believe it's only $8.95 (check).

Favorite now is Fasching's in Arcadia. On Santa Anita just south of the 210 freeway. Senior day Tuesday $10.95 - excellent work.

Del Mar at Pasadena Avenue is pricey and work is so so.

So, between BettyS and Betty I might not go back, although I'm dying to know how sexy I am.

I like the car wash at Woodbury and Fair Oaks, they're always nice to me and they do a good job.

I'm so jealous, Petrea! I want to go play with those machines. I use the car wash on my driveway (some fat, balding, middle-aged guy with a bucket, moaning about the weather) and there aren't any fun vintage machines to play with, darn it.

Petrea Burchard said...

Dive, it's better for me to just pay the money. The woman at the car wash in my driveway lets it go until it's embarrassing.

I usually go the ultra-cheap do-it-yourself places but a few days ago I went a threw caution to the wind and paid for a little something extra to be done.

All I could think about was those poor guys who work there.

I like Lucky Car Wash on Colorado and Rosemead. Unfortunately they don't have a Love Meter, so maybe I'll try Walnut-Hill Car Wash. But the truth is, my car is so dirty I'm too embarrassed to bring it to a car wash. I call it the Doggie Mobile.

This post made me think of Caine's Aracade. If you haven't seen it yet, you must. It'll make your day.

I wonder if there's an "Inaccurate Weight" scale?

Petrea Burchard said...

K, I noticed at Walnut-Hill that many of the workers appeared to be in their sixties, or older. Folks need jobs.

Susan, I loved Caine's Arcade, it's one of the best indie shorts ever.

Ms. M, I bet there is!

I used to love arcades when I was a boy, especially the prize money ones and soon figured out that there was a pattern and an easy way to make a few pennies. Now they are all computerized and random I never ever play any of them.

Well...I'd say I'm jealous, but I'm rather fond of my paint job...

We have two choices up here...the do it yourself in mammoth or the regular car wash in Bishop. I opted for the Bishop one today...the paint is still ok...but they're a bit lax at getting crumbs out of the console!!!

On the rare, really, really rare, occasion I go to the carwash, I go to the cw at Colorado and Sierra Madre. I don't remember their having games, but the price was right and the paint stayed on the car.

Petrea Burchard said...

Paul, the only arcades I've ever visited were a bit creepy (thus the Bradbury reference), but that doesn't mean I didn't like them.

Yeah, Chieftess, I think I've been talked out of this one.

For some reason I can't picture that one at the moment, Roberta! Off to google. Argh.

You were probably afraid you would have broken the love meter.

Petrea Burchard said...

PA, I had to think about that for a while. "Tiny trees?" Oh yeah.

Of course, Margaret. Of course I was.
