the film set
The American Business Awards were given out two nights ago. I picture a ceremony in New Yawk Sitty, with the men in black-tie and the women in sophisticated evening gowns and subtle jewelry. It could just as well have been an after-work chicken buffet, for all the facts I have at my fingertips. I would never have heard of these awards if not for the fact (at my fingertips) that my husband, John Sandel, along with the friendly geniuses at Superfreako Productions, created the video for Vertical Response, which won the award for "Video: Other."
Other! Isn't that great? It has a certain cachet.
Vertical Response beat out Dow Corning, Gatorade and even AT&T, which pleases me no end.
I posted about the shoot when John and his associates shot for Vertical Response at our place in January. John met the Superfreako people through We Make Movies, which is to the Hollywood film business what self-publishing is to the New York publishing industry.
Here's the video (that's John's arm and hand drawing):
Congratulations to everyone at Vertical Response and Superfreako. We've been enjoying feeling good about it. I'm proud of John. It's not the first award he's won, but it's sweet. And I know there will be more.

Congratulations, indeed. And nice drawing too!
Congratulations. That is a very talented arm and hand!
Congratulations to John and Vertical Response!
I have a question...How does he do that? I mean, draw right-handed? Being left-handed, it looks so strange to me.
Many congratulations! (Hope you can wear that evening gown soon.)
Jean, you should see what he can do at normal speed.
Thanks, Bayside!
Weird, huh, Speedway?
Karin, we're making Oscar plans.
Yep, it is weird, Petrea, but that arm and hand has a certain screen presence, an aura that makes it so you can't take your eyes from it the moment it comes on-screen. I guess it's "star power" and that strange right-handed drawing skill should only lead to bigger things.
CONGRATULATIONS, John!!!! And well-desrved, because that is a fabulous video, very, very effective. John's so quick on the draw. How come you guys weren't there in New York to collect the award? I'd like to see you in evening dress, P, posing with your thigh showing Angelina-style.
Well now, you could have worn that evening gown...spruce up the after work chicken buffet a bit!!!
Love the video...Congratulations John!!!
I'd say John's best award writes this blog, but he is obviously a talented guy whom we'd like to know better...
Congratulations, John!
Betsy
hee hee, Speedway.
The award was for Vertical Response, Bellis, not for John exactly. But weren't they brilliant to hire Superfreako? It goes without saying that Superfreako was brilliant to hire John.
As for the evening gown: maybe cleavage. I don't think thigh is my thing.
Betsy, I'll let John comment on that.
Woohoo! That's fabulous news, Petrea. Many congratulations to John and his team. I love his drawings.
"Other" is the coolest category of all.
Does Other mean Unique?
Tell John, a few months back, that a friend of mine who is a school teacher in Northern California linked your video to his class (and on FB). I didn't tell him a thing about it either. Kind of cool
Well, I was mesmerized by that arm and hand, and left wishing there was more to watch. Very, very cool! Congratulations to all!
Thank you, Dive, I agree.
Bellis, I think "Other" means "We have no idea what to do with you."
PA, that's the coolest! I don't think he's seen the post yet but he will love that.
Thank you, Adell. I like watching this, too.
John also draws wonderful monsters, old people, muscle-men, etc. Right now he's working on the storyboards for his short film, "Strong Love." That's his next --well, current-- project.
Bravo to one and all!!!! And John's hand and arm are quite sexy I think. :) Thanks for the video P!

I sure there will be many more awards. Very exciting. Congrats, John.
Congrats to John and his team from me, too! Especially an award for "Video: Other." Perfect.
John does have sexy arms and hands, Virginia. Good eye.
Thanks for all the congratulations, everyone! (Is there a singular for that? Congratulation?) We're still celebrating.
Wow - I just looked at my comment regarding mesmerization (a word which I just made up), and I spelled my name wrong. :)
Oh poo, and here I thought I had a new commenter...
Mazal tov, John!
Petrea, yours is a house of many talents.
Thank you, Dina.
