Commute, 9

I don't usually stop on the way to or from Bell Sound Studios in Hollywood for my weekly recording session. This isn't because the possible stops don't tempt me. It's because I'm on my way to work and I haven't included browsing time in my commute.

So I haven't tried Jollibee. Looks like it's a chain but I've never seen another one besides this one on Beverly Blvd.

Anybody?

Yahoo reviews say Jollibee is a Filipino fast food chain. After reading the reviews I might not end up going to Jollibee but I might seek out some Filipino food. It sounds pretty good.

Filipino food is delicious, Petrea. You can check out some recipes for sinigang and kare kare over at my place (you know where to look) that Jong, the Pinoy chef taught me to make.
Not too sure about Chickenjoy or Yumburger, though.

There's a strip mall with Filipino food in Pasadena (or possibly Altadena). I've eaten food from shops there. Quite good. (I think it's on Allen. Definitely a north/south street.)

Not familiar with Jollibee, but I do like the happy little bee that's part of its logo. Is there a connection between Filipino food and bees?

When my husband and I were first married we lived above nurses who are Filipino. They got home at 6am and heated up the oil... Ever since then, its hard for me to get that out of my head... A friend had to watch his intake on Filipino food, his waste line was growing....
U come across some unique eatery signs... Checked out the menu and its somewhat similar to the street
foods in Hawaii.

I may have to ask my Filipino next door neighbors! We've hung out together but never broken bread together, or sinigang for that matter.

Thanks to Jean, found this -- http://www.yelp.com/biz/chaaste-family-store-pasadena. Sounds like it's worth a try.

Looks like Liz from Duarte doesn't like it much, but apparently only because she can't get the counter woman to laugh at her jokes.

Jollibee seems to be a popular chain in the Philippines. I hope Ms. M won't mind me sharing her Yelp review: "How can you be in a nasty mood when a GIANT smiling apis is shining down on you in a Hunter S. Thompsonesque way that conjures up visions of melting skies, moon beams and acid flashbacks?"

I guess that cute bee caught your eye as well, Petrea.

Maybe so, Chieftess, although I didn't see it buzzing.

Our very own Ms. M? That's exciting, Bellis. I hope she checks in here today. I love that she used "apis," she's such an intellectual.

Sorry to disappoint you, but that's someone else masquerading as me :-) (I do appreciate her Hunteresque comment about the eternally grinning bee; it does look a bit manic). I've never eaten at Jollibee, but because of the comments here, I now have a craving for Filipino food.

Regardless, I'll think of you when I try it, Ms. M.

I'm totally intrigued. Didn't even know we had Filipino fast food in our area. Sounds yummy!

Now I'm embarrassed. Yes, I've eaten at Jollibee. French fries. They have one in the Eaglerock mall. Used to be a Bobs Bigboy.

I don't know why you should be embarrassed, PA. You're the authority we've been seeking. And Eagle Rock is closer. This is great.

So fess up, PA. How were those fries?
