Summer Gap

Another shadow shot, I realize. This one is more of the high noon variety than yesterday's expression of the eclipse.

We're having warmer days, which I like. I've been barefoot several times already (atch-ootch-eetch); you can tell by looking at our bathtub.

My favorite thing about summer besides the heat is the slowing of the pace of business. Fewer obligations. Around here, people don't seem to plan as much (maybe because it's hot?) and I have more time for my own work.

What's your favorite thing about summer?

Summer already? Oh yes, you have Memorial day soon, after which you'll have to wear white gloves again. It's nice when things calm down after all the activity packed into the first few months of the year. That doesn't happen in Britain where everything has to be packed into the few weekends of summer. This year there is a very long public holiday for everyone to enjoy the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, from June 1st to the 5th. Lots of street parties are planned, for which the shops are full of bunting, cupcake holders and Union Jack iced cakes. I want to buy it all. Having a monarchy has its advantages.

So, how do u like all the wind we are getting??? The Santa Anas are a ...... and whenever we get those winds...u know what that means... Summer means everything is blooming and growing... and yes the heat, tho I'd take the heat vs the cold any day.

Used to be, longer days. Now, probably stone fruit.

Summer is my least favorite season here in Florida. Too hot, too humid. And, worst of all, hurricane season begins June 1 and lasts until November 30. My days will begin by watching the weather channel and hope that nothing developed overnight. After Hurricane Ivan, I have a knot in my stomach each summer. The predictions for this year is that it will be a quieter season, so let's hope they are right.

I do like the berry picking season though.

I love how you turned a chain link fence into abstract art. (That is a chain link fence, isn't it? With wooden posts?)

I can relate to BaysideLife. Summer is my least favorite season down here, but I do appreciate the lazy days. Once I get some shade for my back patio I'll be able to embrace this heat. Right now it's unbearable back there for the second half of the day.

Bellis, I'd be happy to shop in London this summer, even if it's rainy. I don't really need any bunting, but why not?

We haven't had much wind around our house, KBF, but any little breeze kicks up a sneeze. I don't have the worst hay fever but I feel sorry for those who do.

Mmm, Jean, you're making me think of peaches. You may recall that around here we have to get them at the Farmers' Market. At the grocery stores they're picked too early and never ripen properly.

Bayside, I hope you have a "nothing" hurricane season this year. And good berries.

Chain link with those plastic slats for privacy, Susan.
We need shade on our front porch, too--can't use it 'til late in the day. I'd love a nice pergola with wisteria. What's your plan for your porch?

These are my favorite kind of photos. Fall and winter are my favorite seasons. Summer evenings when I was a kid.

Summer evenings. Bug spray, back then (Illinois had lots of mosquitoes).

Long summer evenings when it is warm enough to sit out late (10, 11pm) listening to the last birdsong of the day fade, and watching the bats come out hawking for insects.

Awesome shadow photo! Summer for me usually means lots of cool and foggy weather, but this year I'm spending time in Montana and Minnesota with some dear friends, and I look forward to, among other things, warm evenings spent outside eating and drinking and catching up. And going to the Minnesota State Fair where I hope to eat deep-fried hot-dish on a stick.

Great shadow shot!
I like spring and fall better than summer. SW Idaho summers are a little too hot for me.
But things are more casual during summer around here, which is nice.

There are. So many things I like about summer. I'll start with the attire. I do like summer dresses and sandals.

I love shadow shots - love the composition of this one, plus it's great evidence the sun's been around.

(That is just amazing about your past eclipse experience! My first eclipse was ages ago in Hawaii, all the crazy loud tropical birds went quiet for once. I was an impressionable teen, so always associate that bird-quiet with eerie, otherworldly (in a good way!) moment of eclipse and v.v.).

If I were giving prizes today, John would win. Oh wait! I am giving a prize.

Deb, you remind me of another summer favorite of mine: sitting on the porch with my husband (John Sandel, for those who wonder why that guy said what he said) and our dog, Boz and enjoying the warm evening. We get bats, too.

Katie, I don't know what deep-fried hot-dish on a stick is and I don't want to know, but I hope you enjoy it.

I'd probably like SW Idaho summers, Ms. M.

I like summer clothes, too, Margaret. It's time for new ones this year.

Londonlulu, I think I will always associate eclipses with the ancients because of how it felt to be upon the English countryside that day. How do you explain that to yourself when you don't have the science? You'd better build yourself a Stonehenge.

NO SNOW!!!
Long days...
Warm nights...
Sitting on the back patio drinking wine and talking with friends late into the evening...
Flip Flops...

I can go on and on...summer's my favorite season!

Oh, I'm late but I love the idea of a pergola with wisteria! I keep changing my mind; there are so many options. But I think I've narrowed it down to two for my back patio: either a pop-up gazebo (cheap and easy) or shade sails: http://www.shadesails.com/

Petrea Burchard said...

It's mine too, Chieftess, even here where it's hot.

Very nice, Susan. You could do cheap and easy now and reserve shade sails for later.

Sorry, I am a tad late. Should have said yesterday how much I love this sort of photograph. Terrific.

LOL, feel free to give me compliments at any time. Thank you.

Ha, my favorite thing about summer is that eventually it will turn into autumn.

If it lasts for longer than 2 days...
