PB Phone Home

First picture taken with my new iPhone. I guess I'm not the only one who thinks it's Christmas.

So my brother called yesterday while J. and I were hiking out of cell phone range. When we got back into range and I saw the message I thought, "I know! I'll call him back!"

Yeah. I'm crazy that way.

You've got to have a phone--or at least I do. Yet since last year, when my phone began its downhill slide to iHell, I've put off buying a new one. We're having a recession over here and I'd rather save money for a vacation than spend it on a phone.

But it was getting ridiculous. John's tired of hearing about how slow the phone is, how bad the service is, how I can't download new apps because the operating system is too old. There's a tiny pocket of space in my office where I could make a phone call if I leaned sideways and didn't move my head, but mostly I've been going out to the median to make calls.

Yesterday, even that option was no longer available. When I stood by the road and tried to return my brother's call, my poor old iPhone decided not to be a phone anymore.

So I got a new one. And a new carrier (yahooey! that's a biggie). Then I called my brother. (The smiley face goes here.)

What a cozy house!

When we first moved to Florida our cell service was sketchy at best. Our carrier's solution was to tell us to walk around the house until we found a spot with service and then make our calls from there. Need I say we are no longer with that carrier. Hope your new phone works everywhere!

btw, i noticed your potted plants lining the walkway... good feng shui also having something red at the entrance is suppose to create good energy to your home....

Now be honest, P - you just wanted a 4S...

Very cosy looking. I usually only succumb to a new phone when mine expires its last gasp. Enjoy the bliss of your new one, Petrea - you won't know yourself. {Well, of course you still will. Where does that expression come from?!}

Hurray, you got the new iPhone!! Let me know if the reception's better with the new carrier. I love my iPhone, it has everything I need on it - memo pad, calendar, camera, video camera, and more, and more. The camera's really good. Don't forget to get a Hello Kitty phone cover for it.

Thanks, Dina.

Tallahassee: It's a cute little house, isn't it? I should do a series on cute little houses because there are so many charming ones around here.

Bayside: unbelievable! I've gotten about that much help from my previous one.

Kalei, this isn't my place but maybe I should put some red plants out.

JB, I wanted a phone that would work. All it had to be was an Apple product with an 8 megapixel camera, video, face-to-face, wifi, and superfast downloading.

Shell, I've never heard that expression but I like it.

Hello, Bellis. Perhaps not the kitty, though.

You know what I'm going to say so I won't way it. Hee hee.

Or even "say" it.
Sheesh! Typo hell.

Petrea Burchard said...

I held out way too long, Chieftess!

Dive, I promise not to hold loud phone conversations in restaurants or libraries. Nor will I text while driving. Although it's legal here I don't even talk on the phone while driving, because it's been proven to be the equivalent of driving drunk and there are too many other "drunks" on the road.

Congrats on your new phone! This post is great, love the part about iHell. Did Boz accompany you on your trips to the median? ; )

The part about being out of range brought back good memories of going "up north" (aka northern Michigan) and being at the lake with no cable, no internet, and no damn cell phone. I miss those days.

Anyway, it'll be fun to seeing more iPhone pix. The little house is cool - I want to go inside because surely there's a nice, grandmotherly woman in there with a plate of freshly-baked cookies.

LGreen, you're making me ache for a vacation. When I'm in town and working, I know I need the phone. But there are times when I wouldn't mind not having it.
Yes, Boz accompanies me to the median. He has to police it after all.

Enjoy your new phone! I would really like to have an iphone or a Droid at some point.
Instead of "Hello Kitty", you need a "Hi There Boz" cover.

I've been wanting a cell phone, but I don't need one. However, my family is after me to have one as a safety measure, because I'm out alone so much.

I just can't figure who I'd call, or what I have to say is so important it won't wait until I see the person, can call them when I get home, or send an e-mail. We did OK before the damn things were invented.

@ Speedway...I have to agree with your family...it is a good safety measure! I frequently drive in remote areas with just me and the dog or long distances and it's nice to have that lifeline...But I also have to say that I rarely call on my cell...It's also amazing how convenient it is and how much you'll appreciate it after getting used to it. Since I have a Droid, I use mine all the time to access the internet...you know...when you're out at dinner and the conversation comes around to something or somebody we can't remember or want to know more about...
Wha-La!!! Instant information!!! (love imdb.com)

Ms. M, I had a "Hello Boz" home screen on my previous phone. I'll probably do something similar with this one but I haven't got stuff set up yet.

Speedway, safety first. I don't make a lot of calls with mine, but I do use it to access the internet.

And yes, Chieftess, I love the imdb app! (I'm even listed there!)

There you are on imdb! I had to look - on my laptop, not my Droid. Those are some classy shots. I love your different looks.

And that is a cute little house. Love how it's lit up.

Petrea Burchard said...

I'm not on your droid? Not on the app? Oh, my poor heart. Ha!

How exciting! My iPhone is the reason I started my new little blog. Can't believe the great pictures they take. (...and they even do well with a good old-fashioned phone call, which is a nice side-bonus). Have fun!
