Altitude Adjustment

Everything's pleasant when you have the right attitude. It's a simple notion, but I had to discover it for myself by trial and error. Try taking a bad attitude out into the world and it's striking how many errors you can make.

Not that I'm always aware I have a choice. Sometimes the world looks so bleak that's all I can see. Then I find out all I have to do to shine it up is clean my glasses.

Wasn't it nice of these people to pose under a tree? And wasn't it helpful of that branch to curve out above the path and frame the shot? Lucky me, the world was out to do me a favor that day.

As a teenager just reaching out into adult novels (just grownup books, not erotica!) I wondered where on earth the writers found their inspiration. Where did they get that idea? How did they begin?

Art struck me the same way. How did they see that?

Then I lived a few more years, experienced more of life and the world, opened my eyes and my mind, and realized it was all there, all the time.

(That could have been a great Zen Monday photo, too, Petrea.)

Sometimes, folks are just there when you need them!

Beautiful photo! I think getting out (and up) in nature is an abundant source of gifts, and you're lucky to live so near trails like this. But I don't think it was luck that gave you this photo -- it's your talent as a photographer, and your choice to see beyond your bad attitude and take in the bigger picture. Great post!

Give me a glass half full (those folks make the picture) rather than half empty attitude (wish those folks would move along and let me take my picture) any day of the week.

Thanks, Katie. We are lucky to have all the lovely trails here. And I think you're right, we have a choice to see beyond a bad attitude. So hard to do sometimes but it's always in our hands. I know that sounds like a platitude but I've seen people choose to be positive and kind in the direst of circumstances.

Well said, Deb!

Okay, and Betsy's comment finally came through! It was in my email long before it got here.

You are right, it's all there, all the time. It was Dorothea Lange who said "The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera."

I feel relaxed just looking at it.

I like Dorothy Lange's quote...I find myself looking at the world as if I have a camera at my eye, even when I don't!!!

Well, good, Margaret. That seems right.

Chieftess, I know what you mean. I frame everything and think of how to shoot it.

A great photo. I could sit here and imagine dialogue between these two. Each imagining would be different, but all would describe their surroundings.

I like that, Bayside. It's nice to think my photo sparked your imagination like these people sparked mine.
