WetFest

Because we didn't get to have our LitFest yesterday (it's rescheduled for May 12th) I was hoping for a pretty good show of rain, and the skies delivered some beautiful stuff.

The Bottomless Pit of Love, aka Boz, gets even deeper on rainy days, refusing to go out and asking sweetly and persistently for extra attention. What can I say but yes? (Actually, I say "whoozapooper?" It means the same thing.)

In the afternoon, I talked to a friend in Chicago. (With her, I used regular English.) It was in the 70s and sunny where she was. It's supposed to be freezing and snowy in Chicago in March! What gives? Is it a fluke? Or is it time to mandate compost-powered cars?

How about crocheting Boz a winter jacket?
I walked HaHa last evening and ran into a 17 year old mutt (they say heeler type - I say Shiba Inu type) . Happy as a Hound. Tougher then a Terrier.

After the storm passed, Abby and I walked up the Arroyo past JPL to watch the roiling river, dark brown with soil (the DNA of the forest). She's energized by cool, moist weather and runs like a puppy, but she doesn't like heavy rain. The storm only dropped 2 inches, and we still need 7 inches more before the rainy season ends. My husband was in Philadelphia last week, where it was T-shirt and shorts weather, and there's a drought in the south of England.

Exactly, Lochinver! We especially need it in southern California.

Thank you, kulasa.

PA, I could give it a try but he doesn't seem to like wearing clothes. I think we'll try Hahamongna today. Hard to resist after the rain.

More rain, Bellis! I know what let's do: get everyone together (march 24th, Farnsworth Park) and do a rain dance).

I talked to someone in Michigan this week and it was 80 degrees.

Kelly and TheChief went for their last walk of the night last night around 11...Kelly took of her business within a few steps of the yard and high tailed it back...it was around 20 degrees and still snowing!!!

Nice critical focus. The stomata are pulling towels around their butts & shaking their fists.

What an elegant and glorious image. It looks as if each of the drops and droplets were poised and posed waiting for you to capture each one of them.

Chieftess, that's the way it's supposed to be! (I mean the cold weather in the mountains. I don't have an opinion about doing one's business and hightailing it.)

Thanks J! Or the camera thanks you.

LH, thanks. I like the darkness of it, too.

Stunning photo. And I want a whole room painted in that shade of green. I'm like Boz, if it's raining I'd rather just hunker down at home. I spoke to a friend in Minnesota today; she's trying to get me to move back by bragging that it's 25 degrees warmer there than in Berkeley today. So not fair!

Petrea Burchard said...

How nice to know your friend wants you to move back! But the globe will have to be considerably warmed before I'll go back to anywhere that gets snow in the flatlands.

I had wished for more rain after that big media build up. A bit disappointing, really.

My sister said it was in the 70s in Vermont yesterday. It's affecting maple syrup production. I guess the trees are all confused. Maybe it is time for compost-powered cars.

No kidding, Margaret. Typical LA rain: "Batten down the hatches! Get your sandbags! Fire! Floods!" Some of these folks need to spend a rainy season in the Midwest.

Susan, bought some way-too-sweet cinnamon thingies that are going into the bin. I love my compost bin and I've figured out how to make some very nice dirt with it, but so far, no gasoline.

V, why am I sneezing? What's up with that?

Marvelous photo!
Yes, the weather has been strange. My relatives in the midwest have been enjoying sitting on their deck, wearing summer clothes. Here, in Boise, we had light snow this morning (it melted quickly).

It's going to mess with farming, Ms. M. Soon we'll be growing corn in southern California, and the citrus industry will have to move to Alaska. I'm sure we'll adjust, once we've all figured out how to shave our elbows and to look attractive in hip-waders.
