Momentous Occasion

I know. Just a tree-lined street. No big deal.

But wait.

One guy on a bike. No traffic. No garbage cans. No parked cars.

This never happens.

I took a picture of it, in case we need a record. You know, for posterity or whatever.

You're always on the ball, Petrea. It's rather bucolic.

...and THIS is why I love your city!.I was talking to a friend who is familiar w/the Pasadena area... We both agreed we liked it because it was such a peaceful atmosphere.. I told her parts of it remind me of Santa Barbara, the laid backness of the people, even your traffic does not seem crazy like L.A. or even my little suburb.

Very striking.

The bicylist sets it off by confirming its real.

You know, it's eerie. And pretty.

For a town of 137,000, it is weird. And thanks, K, I hadn't thought about the cyclist that way, but you're right.
I think Pasadena's (relatively) bucolic atmosphere has a lot to do with trees. Even after the storm November 30/December 1, we still have a lot of trees.

That's my kind of street. Makes me want to go sit on somebody'd front porch.

I couldn't work out which street it was at first, as there are so many that look like this. Aren't we lucky? I think there's residents-only parking along there, so Caltech employees and visitors like me can't escape the charges on campus. The homeowners all have big driveways. And the only traffic is probably me when I use it as an alternative to busy California so I can admire the view.

reminds me of riding my bike down Grand Ave (in Pas or SoPas) as a teen. Before the traffic bumps and busy-ness.

Makes me want to take a nice deep cleansing breath.

Thanks!

Cops'll come for you fast on this street, Steven, but I know what you mean.

That must be the explanation, Bellis. Maybe it's not such a rare view on San Pasqual after all.

Grand Avenue is another beautiful street, Trish. There's a blue gate over there I want to photograph.

I think I know where the blue gate you speak of is. Would LOVE to see a pic when you have time!

The theme for today continues. I was thinking of your pic, thinking of my rides up and down Grand and thinking of the Subaru Brat that used to be parked in a driveway at the corner of S Arroyo Blvd and Garden Ln. I'd go past it and drool...guess I shoulda known I'd be into trucks later in life! But interestingly enough, I saw one drive past today while I was out and about. Queue the Twilight Zone music!

Yay trees!

Personally, I think you photoshopped.

A peaceful neighborhood scene...or so it seems...
(John seems to have access to some additional information)

Always love your stories, Trish.

More trees tomorrow, Des, after a fashion.

Margaret, I couldn't manage Photoshop if I took a two-year intensive course. I do have a little program. I cropped out the No Parking signs.

hee hee, Ms. M.

No parking on the streets from November 1 to April 1...
for snow blowers...

Seriously? Oh, I think I'd never go outside.

What a beautiful street with gorgeous and leafy trees!

Much of Pasadena looks like this, Sonia (except there are usually cars parked along the streets). Very early on, the city planners knew the value of trees. Trees have continued to be an important part of Pasadena, which is why it's beautiful here and why, when we lost over 1,000 of them in last winter's wind storm, it was such a big deal to us.
