Three Cameras

On my way to the ATM yesterday I caught a glimpse of the Green Street side of the First Church of Christ, Scientist at Green and Oakland. The building is grand from all angles, especially on a sunny day, but Green Street not being its best side I decided to double back on my way home and park in front, on the Oakland side, to take its picture.

Kinda sparkly on a sunny day. If this building had a speaking voice it would be a big bass with a Mid-Atlantic accent.

I got lucky. A bride and groom were having their picture taken by three photographers, two of whom they were aware of.

Took me a while to see the third one. Paparazzi? The church is stark, massive, but there's something about Grecian symmetry that's aesthetically pleasing. Is it our cultural heritage that makes us like it, or did they hit on the golden rule? Where's Dive, our resident architect?

It reminds me of Ohio, but that's not so far from mid-Atlantic.

Perhaps that other photographer is too well hidden. I thought I was being so sneaky.

I read somewhere about how the ancients created buildings to awe and intimidate. So many of our styles still reflect that.

Dive's taking a blog break because of office overwhelm, I believe. He'd be useful on this one, surely.

I do like this building, don't get me wrong, but I always thought Mid-Atlantic was pretentious.

Impressive building, altho not "Pasadena style". Reminds me of a Greek temple to Apollo or Athena. Wonder what it's like inside under the dome?

The one in Toronto is almost identical. I've just got your reference to mid-Atlantic. You mean Washington? That Greek city designed by George W? I think it's rather splendid.

I've wondered that, too, Ms. M. Never been inside.

Bellis, I'm thinking of the accent the early Hollywood actors adopted--a sort of quasi-British-not-exactly-American "dahling, let's have a look, shall we?"

It's a good photography location. Next time I'll try to get up on the porch, but the bride and groom had it occupied.

Is Bellis the only one who saw the other photographer?
