Boz Humbug

Notice the pretty eyes, no longer hidden by a horrible old cone.

Boz and I have found a lot of Christmas trees lying, drying at the curb. We wondered what the deal is so we did a bit of research. It wasn't easy to find but by searching the city's website for "christmas tree" (quotes included) I found this information at the bottom of the Pay as You Throw Program page:

"What should I do with my Christmas Tree?
There is a separate, free, Christmas tree recycling program. Notices will be sent to residents to inform them of their tree pickup date.  For your tree to be collected and recycled, you:

1.  Must place your tree at the curb by your specified time

2.  Must remove all tinsel, ornaments and decorations

3.  Must remove all metal and plastic bowls/stands

4.  Must place tree on the curb, not in the alley"

There are two kinds of people in this world: those who are so anal that when they received their notice umpteen moons ago they put it in a safe place where they would remember it and they now know exactly what their Christmas tree collection date is, and those who think they never received their notice.

Guess which kind of person I am.

Boz is an expert at disseminating information and he wants me to spread the word. Drop-off dates have already passed but you can still put your tree by the curb on your normal curbside pick-up day through January 13th. After that, I imagine you'll have to call the city to arrange for a large item pick-up.

Boz (aka Teddy Butt) suggests you get it done while the do do doing is good.

Ah, what a handsome fellow he is now that the cone is off.
I thought I was Scroogey enough about Christmas but Boz is taking criticism to a new level.

What a smart boy Boz is, to be helping the community! : ) I just enjoyed checking out his category of entries. Funny coincidence, a close friend who lives in Ireland got a boxer pup in 2010, and after getting to meet him, I live for "Siri" updates and pix. It's such a loveable breed, and now I can look forward to Boz updates too. Love the one of him with puppy Bruno, as well as the pix in which only a paw, or paws, show. Awww.

Boz has such a sweet face. I like that he saved the lawn. Good Dog.

Dive, I think one reason Boz isn't crazy about Christmas is because it isn't all about him.

LGreen, you went pretty far back! It's my pleasure to post as much Boz as possible. He's not a purebred, but you've spotted the boxer in him.

Kalei, there's a person in there. Not a human, but a person.

Bayside, he is the best dog ever. Amazingly docile and sweet.

Brilliant, JS! (John refers to Charles Dickens, for whom Boz is named.)

Is there any command he won't follow?

No more cone of shame! Hooray!

Petrea Burchard said...

Karin, he refuses to come when he's called.

Margaret, I thought he'd be thrilled but he takes everything in stride.

He definitely looks pissed off from what he's gone through in recent times, in one dogs humble opinion.

Ahhh...Boz is quite resourceful isn't he! I'm sure he's quite happy to be rid of the cone of shame!!!

Now that the cone is off, Boz once more feels like he can lick the world ... pissy look and all.

Boz rarely barks, but never let it be said that he's not a good communicator.

i was going to say that Boz seems pissed off in the second image, but someone beat me to the punch. glad his cone's dismantled.

in the wake of the SGV windstorm, all those Christmas trees lying in front of our houses look especially eerie.

Boz and Tommy have the same attitude about Christmas (although "Tommy Humbug" doesn't quite have the same ring to it), and their Christmas tree yoga posture is identical. They must be distant relatives.

LOL Petrea! I love this photo. I guess when you've gotta go, you've gotta go.

Petrea Burchard said...

Alex, there are still a lot of streets lined with trunks and branches. The work continues; today we saw a huge truck full of tree debris.

Susan, if you want to call it yoga, that's fine with me. I have no doubt Boz and Tommy have a common ancestor.

Hi Monnica! Nice to see you.

If your super anal you can remove the needles, put them in those single socks that lost a mate and call them sachets; or Bozz toys

Not that you'd have any from your Christmas trees, but I like to use pine cones as tinder for fires in the hearth or campfires. Maybe pine needles could be just as useful, as well as aromatic.

WV = normst, as in she's sorts in the middle, kinda normst-like.

I sent out a news release about it and the information is also on the City of Pasadena homepage under Latest News. I try not to make people hunt and peck too much when it comes to timely issues!

PA, I thought I was super anal but apparently not.

Speedway, I think there's an ordinance here about fireplaces. In older houses they're grandfathered in, but new homes can't have wood burning fireplaces. It's an air pollution thing. Am I wrong here? Anybody?

Never fear, PIO. I'm the type who keeps my notice in a safe place. Apparently not my press release, however. Thanks for the link.

I love the idea of our Christmas trees being recycled and turned into mulch. We are super green here in Seattle. I'm just wondering, what did Boz get for Christmas? He does look like quite the charming devil without that silly cone.

Bellis said...

Boz must be so happy to be social networking again. He probably feels those trees were put there especially for him.
His eyes look good, no sign of redness in either, so I can't even tell which one was operated on.

Petrea Burchard said...

Patricia, Pasadena has great recycling and other green programs. For example (my favorite) I learned about composting and bought an inexpensive compost bin at one of the city's free workshops. They also have water-wise gardening, soil technology and other workshops, all free.

Bellis, do you mean the trees were not put there especially for Boz? I won't tell him, don't want to burst his bubble.

Boz is looking good!

Trish said...

Waiiiit, waiiiit! Why is everyone assuming Boz is pissed off?

He's merely helping P&J and Pasadena in general with "watering"---and good drought assistance.

Sheesh! Give the poor boy, recently freed from his cone of shame, a break!

Can I borrow sweet Boz to cheer me up?
Google locked me out of my blog. Now it's like having that cone on my head.
Shalom from Dina

Petrea Burchard said...

Thanks, Jilly!

Ha! I don't think he's pissed off, either, Trish, I think he's relieved.

Dina, I wonder what happened? You sometimes deal with controversial topics but never in an inflammatory way. Have you followed the instructions to contact Google? I hope it doesn't take long for them to get back to you and straighten things out. I'll be interested to find out why they removed the blog and I sure hope they didn't lose any of it.

By the way, I've been saving my posts onto my hard drive. You never know.

Ah, good to see Boz out and about, and expressing his opinion about the whole conehead deal :-)
