Twinkle

The lights might just be the best part of December. I also like the food. I do not, however, enjoy the tightening of my pants.

What part of the holidays do you revel in the most?

I don't know about 'revel', Petrea, but the part of Christmas I DREAD the most is the office Christmas party. Mine's due today and your photo reminded me of it. AUGH!

Merry Christmas, I hope you will celebrate it with a thankful heart to God, with your family and friends. :)

I'm wondering how you achieved that photo .

Thank goodness I've grown too old for office parties - though the ones we had back in the wild 70s occasionally led to a visit to the boss's office the next day for some of the young men. Hope that didn't happen to you today, Dive.

I put all my effort into trying to recreate the magic of my childhood Xmases , with the tree all lit with real candles, and the presents below it on Xmas Eve. I've only recently stopped sending my adult children to their rooms while the fairies decorate the tree.

I love the lights, I love the music. I also love the baking, but haven't been that motivated currently.

the lights - always

But Dive, you have all that CAKE!

Thank you, Enjoy Philippines.

Bellis, I shook the camera, and waved it, and moved it around. This is the one I liked the best. I don't try to recreate childhood Christmases, but John and I are looking to make new traditions.

Alex, you bet.

Des, I will be making a hundred cookies this weekend. Maybe more.

I like the lights, too, Chieftess.

PA, that's good. And parties of all sizes.

It's my first Christmas in the new house so I'm trying out a new tradition (oxymoron?) and having a Christmas eve party. It's a last minute kind of thing, so we'll see how it goes. All are welcome so if you're a local and you want to drop by for yummy treats and a drink or two, let me know. The more the merrier!

I'm trying to picture candles on the live tree too. Bellis, I hope we get to see photos.

Speaking of which, I just received the press release about holiday fire safety. It includes the following:
· Use only non-flammable decorations that are placed away from heat vents. If you use an artificial tree, make sure it is flame retardant.

· If you use candles, make sure they are in a stable holder and place them where children and pets cannot knock them down. Do not leave lit candles unattended and never leave the house with candles burning.

NEVER put candles on or near a Christmas tree or wreath.

Looks like Xmas in Northridge, but that's no fault of yours.

I love the lights too, plus eating hot roasted chestnuts, and singing Christmas carols.

Bah! Those safety spoilsports. We only lit the live candles for a short time, and never left the room while they were burning. But the effect of a tree full of real candles is so much better than one covered in electrical lights.

By the way, my memories are from the early 1950s, probably before electric Xmas lights were invented.

Mostly the chocolate, which makes for increasingly weighty revelry.

Petrea Burchard said...

JS, you crack me up.

Deb, I don't think I've ever had roasted chestnuts and I've known about them for as long as I could read Dickens. I must seek them out this year.

Bellis, one of these days I'd like to spend a Christmas eve with you and the fairies.

Margaret, I already can't get up from my chair.

This photo is a good reminder for me not to drink too many eggnogs. I like seeing holiday lights on palm trees. Yes very California Christmas but I still like them.

Holiday lights are good no matter where you put them, Katie. See? Ms. M agrees.

Virginia, you've got to get a crappier camera. I shot this with my old Olympus.

Love the lights; like Christmas sparklers.

Revel in familia and and baking - usually in that order.

Petrea Burchard said...

"Usually" in that order. Ha! Sometimes baking is a refuge, perhaps.

Honestly? I can't wait til January 2nd. This is not my favorite time of year - holiday or weather-wise.

July 4th is my favorite holiday. It's HOT, the 4th is my mom's birthday, and mine is a week later.

Petrea Burchard said...

Truthfully, J.J., I'm not crazy about it either. I used to be, but not anymore. It's not the best time to be in Pasadena if you don't like crowds! I don't begrudge other peoples' love of the season, though, and I don't mind the after-Christmas sales.

Anyone remember bubble lights???

Petrea Burchard said...

I had to look them up, Chieftess. I never used them. You can still find them online, though.
