Horn Tooting

I know what you're going to say: there are no horns in this picture.

I've decided I'm allowed to toot my own horn every once in a while. I love old phrases like that, don't you? It's easy to figure out how that one arose, but where do you suppose "they had me over a barrel" comes from?

I digress.

Please visit my new website, PetreaBurchard.com, which officially launched yesterday. Sign up to be on my mailing list if you'd like to receive the occasional (and I do mean occasional) update. Bookmark it. Read my stuff. Say hello.

Then head over to the mausoleum. You meet the nicest people there. In the picture above are (L-R) Shannon, Kirk, Tracy, a puffball whose name I didn't catch, Ann and Sofia. Sofia was there for her Halloween costume fashion shoot and the others were enjoying Mountain View Mausoleum. It's a gorgeous place, one of the Dena's most beautiful buildings, and you're welcome to visit respectfully weekdays and Saturdays 10-4 and Sundays 11-3.

I was there to interview company members of Wicked Lit about their new show for a piece in Altadena Patch. The show opens at the mausoleum and in the cemetery October 21st. Mosey on over and read my article, if you please. No strings attached.

Update 10/13: By the way, there's currently an art exhibit upstairs at the mausoleum of Halloween-themed art. Shannon Shea, pictured at left, has a painting in the exhibit. Good news: it sold!

Mazal tov on your new website. First impression is "clear and welcoming." I have to read more.
Gee Petrea, you did/do a lot! Please keep tooting that horn.

It's wonderful, Petrea! You and Paula have done a superb job! As for Camelot & Vine, if I was a publisher, I'd snap you up, pronto. Hang onto your hat ~ I'm sure it's just around the corner.

Sounds like an interesting show. Is Wicked Lit anything like "Wicked" the play?

Love the website! You are so talented and accomplished.

Your horn deserves a little tooting now and then. Best of luck with the new website. Go ahead and admire it as you wet your whistle.

Thank you very much, friends. I'm excited and hopeful, though slightly disappointed that I didn't find "hang onto your hat" or "wet your whistle" on the fun website I found about the origins of old phrases.

Steve, the two are not related. Wicked Lit takes classic literature and adapts it for the stage.

Fabulous website, Petrea. You so totally rule.
Er … why are those lovely people sitting happily in a mausoleum? Is it a Buffy convention?

Yes, PA, I had a few lines in one scene. Not a large role, but it has proven to be one of my most popular appearances. I especially enjoyed it because although I was only seen from the waist up, the wardrobe people dressed me meticulously in a gorgeous outfit, including fabulous shoes.

Dive, you'd have to see this mausoleum. It's just so beautiful. I took pictures but didn't get many of good ones so I'll go back. If you're there to mourn I doubt you'll want to picnic, but folks should go on a pretty day to enjoy the setting and feel right about death. It's inevitable, after all, and you might as well be situated in a place where your loved ones can visit you in beautiful surroundings.

I think I like the new remodeling of your PB.com compared to the old.

Dogs allowed? Must go and take a look! This could be my new-place discovery of the year., which would make me happy as a sandboy. But before heading up to your neck of the woods, I've got to get my nose to the grindstone and clean my home sweet home before all hell breaks loose.

Hi there Petrea. Your new site looks gorgeous. I have been reading your blog for awhile now and I love it. I am a former longtime resident of the Pasadena/Arcadia area. Your pics and words here to it justice very well. Thanks for reminding me of home. And toot away!!!

Petrea Burchard said...

Bellis, I don't think dogs can go inside the building but security didn't send them away from the grounds.

Thanks for introducing yourself, Patricia! I'm so pleased you enjoy the blog, that's why I do it.

Thank you all. I hope the site serves to support my projects, new and old. I think it will. In future I'll be looking for ways for it to support the projects of others as well. Just thinking...

That dog is stuffed. It's obvious. These people aren't fooling anybody.

"Hey, I know—let's go up to Mountain View and get Chopper out of his vault!"

"Okay, but it's your turn to vacuum him."

Petrea Burchard said...

Susan, you are sweet. Don't worry, my bank account keeps me humble.

And then there's JS.

Hi Shannon! It was great to meet you. I have a feeling we'll cross paths again. I've just forwarded your blog to a few folks I know who are totally into movie monsters.

@Steve - Wicked Lit is just like Wicked the Musical other than that is it NOTHING like Wicked The Musical. This video explains:
