It's an easy error to make because although I don't believe JB and Dive have met, they have some erudition in common.
the dead vines are proof my mother is spinning in her grave at a) the selection of videos rather than books and b) the obvious lack of care if vines grew thru the barristers bookcase and died.

This is hilarious! It takes a special kind of person to file their collection in alphabetical order.
Doesn't everyone file their everything alphabetically? How else do you find things?
Actually, most of these are mine, & my bachelor habit was to organize my movies chronologically, then by director's surname … but everything in marriage is compromise, so alphabetic seemed a good other scheme.
I would love to watch a double feature of Kafka and Babe. Kafka first, of course.
@John...lol, when we got married I had my system, worked great. Have compromised down to alpha filing and a numbering system with a spreadsheet so we know what is missing and to whom it went. But, certainly didn't end up with vines or wires running thru it!

Oh so you still have tapes. I have a drawer full for the kiddos but the VCR is dicey. I hate to have to ditch them. WE have the Grinch, and so many more good ones! waaaaaa

Some of the VHS tapes don't exist on DVD. Some we haven't replaced yet. Some we never will.
See? I'm not the only one who has to have things organized. (Thank you, Trish.) When we got married I suppose I could have learned all of film history, but since we both already knew the alphabet it seemed a decent compromise.

Come on, PA, I'll bet yours is as weird as ours.
Here's the deal: we had our cable TV shut off the day after Mr. Obama's inauguration (didn't want to miss that) and we stuck the TV in a closet. Since then, we occasionally watch a DVD on a computer monitor but we've been doing so less and less.
...And our prolific jasmine vine found its way in through a basement window. I thought nothing of it until Karin, the Altadena Hiker, was looking for a copy of Toto the Hero. There is apparently but one copy extant in California and its ours.
I opened the built-in cabinet where we keep our videos and DVDs. The vine had found its way up from the basement. It didn't have much color to it (there's no sun in the cabinet) but it was otherwise healthy.
