I've Got Your Pasadena Weekend

I know it's only Tuesday but calendars fill up. Listen, don't worry about it. I have your weekend planned for you.

Friday the 26th: Wine tasting and silent auction benefiting the Be The Match Foundation, the national bone marrow registry. They'll be tasting wines from some of California's top vineyards. There will also be a "pole dance" the likes of which I'm told Pasadena's never seen before, and that's all I'm saying about it.

Saturday the 27th: hike the Lower Arroyo with Tim Martinez, who knows everything about the native flora here except the Latin names. Tim's talk about plant uses was one of the highlights of last spring's Hahamongna Walkabout. Join him and you'll learn fun stuff like "the best" plant in southern California or what to mix with tequila as a topical for aching muscles.

Sunday the 28th: treat yourself to an ice cream social sponsored by the League of Women Voters, celebrating the anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote. It's only $5, you need reservations and there's still plenty of time to make them. It's being held at Hillmont House, one of Pasadena's most beautiful Victorian homes.

Then I'll see you back here on Zen Monday and you can tell me how much fun you had.

what to mix with tequila as a topical for aching muscles..

I've got a good recipe for a tequila concoction for an aching head.
Orange juice, grenadine mixed in a bucket and consumed in appropriate quantities

You guys have it all figured out. I love that there are these three great events and they don't conflict with each other.

BD, I hope you have something fun on the burner.

Dive, there must be somethingto do in England.

You're welcome, WCGB.

JB, I understand "appropriate quantities" but am having a hard time picturing you drinking out of a bucket.

Thank you, Ben.

I chose the hike with Mr. Martinez. Skype version.

I like JB's idea. But then again I might try the wine tasting too. I better line up a designated driver.

Skype hike! Interesting idea, Irina. All the fun and none of the exercise.

Steven, line up several. They're having a coffee bar for non-wine drinkers.

These events all sound fun! Since it's a bit far, I'll be there in spirit by enjoying a glass of wine on Friday evening, hiking on Saturday morning (trying to learn the name of at least one native plant) and then eating some ice cream on Saturday afternoon.

I love living in Pasadena, where there's always a lot going on. If I decide to stay at home reading a book, it'll be by choice, not because there's nothing else to do.

Coming from England, I was puzzled by what a "Silent Auction" could be. I imagined that the sale had to be conducted in silence, with the auctioneer using his fingers to indicate the cost, and bidders winking, scratching noses or tapping ears.

That's a gorgeous shot, and I love your weekend agenda.

You are a bridge over troubled bushes.

Cafe, I'll be glad to do the job for the money! Oh, wait. I wonder if that interim Assistant PIO job is still open.

Ms. M, I'll do what I can.

Katie, what a cool idea--vicarious event participation.

Bellis, I'm charmed. I hadn't thought of it that way but to one who doesn't know, a Silent Auction must be difficult to picture.

Thank you, Kim!

JS, you made my day. You always do.

I read this Tuesday evening while in Oakland and had every intention of commenting and arranging my weekend according to these excellent plans... but, well, you know what they say about good intentions.

I'm sorry I missed the wine tasting benefit shindig. It's such a great cause. I hope it's a smashing success. Unfortunately I can't make Tim's talk either. But maybe I'll manage the ice cream social. Carmela ice cream is hard to resist.
