No Trash, Either

Don't fill up your weekend yet! I've got something for you to do Saturday morning: fill up some trash bags.

Join Wilson Lau, watershed coordinator at the Arroyo Seco Foundation, in an Arroyo clean-up day!

Yessssss! It's going to be fun! I love cleaning! You should see my house! !!!!!!!!!

Okay, you should not see my house. I don't love cleaning. But I love the Arroyo, so I'll be there. That's a big deal, because it means I'll miss the farmers' market and I'm out of granola.

Meet Wilson in the parking lot by the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center Saturday, July 9 at 9:00a.m. Gloves and trash bags will be provided. Wear work clothes and closed-toe shoes. Although it's supposed to be cooler this weekend than last, "cool" is relative. I recommend a water bottle, sunscreen and perhaps a wide-brimmed hat as well. Something jaunty.

That sign doesn't exactly beautify the landscape but I suppose it serves its purpose. What a shame it needs to be there.
Have a splendid day cleaning up Arroyo Seco, Petrea. Sounds like it might be quite a social occasion.

Sadly, rubbish and trash dumpers don't read signs. And those empty plastic water bottle dumpers assume they're enhancing the environment. I hope there's a good turnout on the day, and am sorry not to be able to join in. Wellington boots are useful for reaching the opposite bank of the river, where quite a bit of trash ends up. Have fun!

No Rubbish Dumping, only High Class Dumping? ;)

I am intrigued by the word "rubbish" on this sign. It just seems so much more dignified than "trash." I hope that you have a great clean-up day... we have ours when it is not so hot here.

I hope we get cool weather and a high turn out.

The use of the word "rubbish" on the sign seems odd to me because, although the word is in our dictionary and we know it, we don't often use it in conversation here. We use "trash" instead. Am I wrong? So yes, Lynn, only high class dumping.

Shoot. Little Bit has swimming lessons that morning or I'd be there. Great cause, P. I'll mention this on my blog this week, too.

Sounds like a very civic-minded event. Will you be wearing your straw boater hat?

No "sentimental rubbish," either!

Petrea Burchard said...

Thanks, Laurie, that would be great.

Steven, I wish I had a straw boater. I've got a sort of dorky gardening hat. But I'm going to wear it.

Got that right, Speedway. Oh, not really. I get sentimental, I admit it. Maybe not today.

I hope Pasa Adjacent sees your sign!!

And that goes for your debris, detritus, junk, litter, odds and ends, refuse, and scraps. And we don't want to see none of your dross, either.

Petrea Burchard said...

Me too, Cafe. But she's all about cleaning up, no dumping.

Hiker, I'll have you know I wrote this whole post without consulting a thesaurus.

No Dross would be a great name for a band.

I'll be happy to join you folks if they ever schedule one of these cleans ups in month where temperatures are moderate. Say March or April?

It's too bad these clean-up days are necessary but clearly they are. Thanks for the heads up on a great cause.

Sorry, Petrea, I cannot go - I'll be picking up my own trash in Sequoia National Park - where I've been bamboozled into going on a camping trip. Pray for me ;-)

No Dross. It would come in a spray.

PA, I'm going to take it as long as I can but yeah, July's not the greatest idea. I wonder if there's a scheduling reason (event? inspection?) they chose this weekend.

Susan, maybe I'll see you there if you can make it. Sunscreen that skin.

Hi Monnica, nice to see you! I'm a tad jealous. You'll have fun in the woods.
