Not So Hot

Is the sun ever going to come back or not? I took this photo at least a year ago and it seems like it's been that long since the sun has shone on/shown itself in Pasadena.

I admit I'm impatient, but one doesn't move to southern California from northern Illinois for the cool, cloudy weather. Or at least that didn't used to be the case. Maybe now one does.

This time I won't complain. Doesn't it seem odd, though, that southern California used to be hot and for the last couple of years it's simply not?

We've got it here. The sun. It must be your sun because it's been unrelentingly hot. Shoot, I can't look out the window without putting on SPF 50 sunscreen.

We're all looking for clouds to provide some relief, even though like the storm that just blew through, they may bring hail and wind strong enough to blow your doors off. At least it's cooler - for about 5 minutes.

Later this morning, when the sun comes back, I will ask it to return to Pasadena, if you will ask the clouds to send an emissary with kinder temperatures.

WV: morne. What it is here, right now. About 3:15 AM, after a nice summer storm.

I wish you a speedy return of such blue skies as this, Petrea.

In my town Enervating weather: morning with a marvellous sun, and in the afternoon ALWAYS rains. ANd I can't run as I want.

What a fabulous photo, Petrea. Simple colours and wonderful shadows and shapes. I particularly like the shape the buildings cut into the sky and the stepped shadows on the ground.

I hope you get your sunshine back soon, though not so much that it starts fires again. If you're wondering where the sun has gone, I have it here. We're in drought conditions after two really sunny years. We've only had an inch of rain since the winter here in Norfolk (remember, this is England and we usually get Seattle's rainfall).

Nice shot of the stark white against those blue skies... I am hoping that you get some soon. We are in dire need of rain here, quite unusual for our wet city.

Bon weekend,
Genie

I love the photo. It sort makes me imagine a whited out backlot for a western movie, waitng a new paint job that shows "SALOON" nad "GENERAL STORE," etc.

Well... we had July temperatures in May and now we have September temperatures and even a touch of snow on the mountain tops... so... :-S
It's been raining for a week now... I must admit I love rain, but like everything when it's too much it sort of annoys you in the end...

At least we have an escape route to the sun here. I check the Mount Wilson webcam, and if it's sunny up there, I head up the Angeles Crest Highway to the top of the front range of mountains and look down on the thick clouds over LA. With the price of gas the way is is, is it worth it? For some sun on my face each day, yes!!!

Dive, I'm coming to Cambridge next week, and will bring rain. Lots of it.

Bellis, maybe we should carpool up to Mount Wilson. And yes, take some rain to England, you'll be the miracle they need!

America is having extreme weather this year, that's certain. But I suppose this is typical for us right now--I'm reminded it's called "June gloom."

Bellis, if it rains I shall know who to blame. I was rather enjoying the Californian sunshine.

Dive, the farmers will thank me, but I don't want it to rain either.

Remember the American attempts to do cloud seeding? It was abandoned partly because some farmers sued for getting too much rain, others for not getting enough. No pleasing them.

It's after 10:30 and Boz still won't get up.

I remember a day back in Jr High (yes, occasionally I can remember something that far back!) I dug out my favorite wool skirt and sweater for a June Gloom day at school in June...almost in time for school to be out for summer. I think we tend to forget that Mother Nature has a mind of her own...she get's tired of the normal patterns and shakes things up now and again...after all, there wasn't any human interference back in the days of the ice age and world wide drought!!!

Maybe we can swap the weathers? No rain here for one month, great weather at a moment, but it is not our weather. I am afraid of fires and want our typical rain and cold back.
I like the photo of deserted street very much.
I used your photo as reference for my sketch, is it ok? Considering that there is no commercial interest in my art, I thought it was not big deal to not inform you in advance. Sorry, if I was wrong. http://irinapictures.blogspot.com/2011/06/jeanne-dobie-about-greens.html

June is quite beautiful in Illinois, Chieftess. I remember that much.

Irina, I love it! Everyone should look at Irina's link. It's a painting of Hahamongna!

You won't hear me complaining. It will be endlessly hot and without break for the next five months. Enjoy it while it's here

I remember it being cold all last summer. Maybe two weeks of heat. Was that just me?

TheChieftess said...

Last summer was definitely a cooler one Petrea!!!
Hopefully your summer will be warmer than last year...perhaps then we won't have snow mid summer!!!

I've actually been enjoying the cooler weather. But as Daisy said, too much of it and it starts to get annoying.

Lovely painting, Irina. You captured the beauty of Hahamongna perfectly.
