La Bodeguita

La Bodeguita restaurant and mini-market squats at the corner of Summit Avenue and Hammond Street.

I was in a bit of a hurry when I drove by the other day, but this photo was not to be resisted. I didn't take the time to go inside.

I found this post about la Bodeguita on Chowhound and it's a rave! Ah, but it's five years old. I say it needs an update.

Have you been to la Bodeguita? What's your review?

It's certainly bright and ~ err, casual. My niece would like that horse.

Not a bad price for a galon of water. I wonder how much they'd charge for a gallon?
I so want that horse.

The decor looks one step beyond shabby chic, but if the food's good, who cares?

That's a small piece of Americana right there.

Shell, you're so tactful.

Definitely a good price, Dive, as a galon of water is rare around here and a gallon even moreso.

All right, Bellis. I believe I have one taker for the expedition.

Vanda, would that be two?

Glad you got a photo of this coin operated pony. I was going to get a shot of the bat mobile version in front of the Super A in Alhambra but it was gone by the time I came back with a camera. Still. for a couple of bucks, you can take the bus from the "A Market" parking lot to one of the Indian Casinos out in the desert. They don't tell you that on groupon

Yes, but would you want to go? I'd rather pay the quarter for a ride on this plastic pony.

I dunno; do they have an alphabet on the window?

I love it. That's it for me. Good job, P!

When I was a kid, the coin ponies had real saddles and bridles, with a lot of decorative metal studs. I thought the one in the kids' dept of a local store looked like Gene Autry's horse Champion. I loved that pony and always begged my gran'ma for a dime so I could ride. Woo-hoo! I was a real cowgirl then!

We have some Mexican restaurants here that have grown into quite a successful enterprise. Basically, wholesome food for modest prices. And the parking lot is very often full. I remember one waiter ... fitted jeans, white western-style shirt -- "Oh, baby, feed me those chile relenos!"

It looks kinda like the Argentinian market on Villa and Wilson.

There are a bunch of markets on Villa that I ought to photograph, if I would ever get out of the car. I'm always using Villa as a short-cut. George's, on Villa and Wilson, looks a far sight fancier than this one, though.

I loved those coin ponies, too. And I remember when they were a dime, I think. I don't remember a specific one, though. I was all about horses when I was a girl.

Karin, I just got the meaning of your question. I don't know. I'll go back and look. Because if it's a D, I care.

I grew up in the inner city, so in 4-H our animals we all coin-operated. I raised a quarter horse.

Hi-ho, silver.

I like the red picnic table. Can Tommy and I join the expedition?

Wouldn't dream of going without you.

Well, yes. How else would I know these things?

I've never been, but that horse is awesome.
