Zen Monday: #148

I know it's a holiday but it's also Monday. I wouldn't leave you hanging without your Zen.

Is this your first Zen Monday at PDP? Here's the deal: today's the day I don't give you my interpretation of the photo. Instead, you give me yours. There's no winner, no prize (although I admit folks get competitive). Just let your imagination go.

Leave your thoughts in the comments and have a good time. I always do.

For two different, thoughtful takes on Memorial day, I encourage you to visit
Laurie at Glimpses of South Pasadena
and
Ben at The Sky is Big in Pasadena.

I love this photo. Maybe its the "Business Hours" with no hours posted, maybe its not-so-expensive curtains drawn across a doorway rather than windows, maybe its the columns framing the doorway, maybe its the lighting or maybe its the noir mood that's done in in color. I just don't know.

Ooooooh … The Green Door!
Such mystery, Petrea.
And those secret business hours …

Sing along (at least those of you old enough to remember):
"There's an old piano and they play it hot,
Behind the green door.
Don't know what they're doin', but they laugh a lot,
Behind the green door.
Wish they'd let me in so I could find out what's
Behind the green door".

Paddy was disappointed when he arrived at 4:01 a.m to find the lights on, but nobody home.

Morning Shell, I must have arrived just after Paddy left. Very disappointed. ;)

Thanks Petrea

No lace curtain Irish here!

Dive gave me the words for the song that was already playing in my head as soon as I saw those green doors. We must be the same age.

I'm older than you by a good couple of centuries, Bellis.

WV: spideki, what the spider uses to get through the green door.

This is a tribute to K, of course. How fitting he left the first comment -- and what a comment. I feel like I just took his class.

We are the company called 'Business Hours' and should you be running out of time to finish your project, we have a few 'hours' to offer. They even come in 1/2 hour increments. Obviously, we are a green company.

I had the same thought as the Hiker.

K is right -- noir in color. It's beautiful. Call this one Noir Verde.

Well, first there's the bastardized Greek Doric pilasters in Po-Mo modern strip retail style (True greek orders are never engaged in a wall). Insert the inexpensive glass storefront doors, put up the green fringe door curtains, and "business hours" are lettered above a space to put a sign from inside with changeable hours with no description. Is this a bordello? Very noir business model, I'll say.

Plus a reference to that famous early soft porn movie from the '70's, "Behind the Green Door", no doubt inspired from that old ditty quoted by "dive".

Does anyone know the CDPB theme for June 1?

Darn!!! A day late and a dollar short...

Bellis said...

Hmmm, would a bordello go by the name of Healthy Living Club? Good way to fool the permit inspectors - but not the PDP crew.

Is it like the green light at the end of Daisy's dock?

"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter--tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther.... And one fine morning-- So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."

It's "curtains" for this business.

Wasn't there a film called "Behind The Green Door?"

This could be on the cover of a mystery/suspense novel.

I have no idea what kind of business operates in this place but I doubt it's an illegal one, as it shares the mini-mall with a taco place and Slaw Dogs, and it's right next door to Polka Dots cupcakes. But I could not resist that door.

K, I thought of you while meticulously editing this picture. It's so fitting that yours was the first comment, that made my day.

John Sandel said...

Not surprised that -K- likes it—it has that weird oneiric light he seeks out.
