Sunday, Sunday

There are worse things you could do than sit on the back steps of Pasadena's Central Library on a Sunday. (Not all branches are open today, but this one's open from 1-5.)

You could go north, where the Friends of the Altadena Library conclude this year's book sale from 1-4pm.

You could catch five free museums at Museums of the Arroyo Day (MOTA)

And it's open house weekend at the Jet Propulsion Lab, when our normally modest rocket scientists get to show off.

No matter your plans, keep in mind that the Pasadena Marathon is also today, so check the map for street closures before you head out if you want to find the runners--or if you don't.

I HEART BOOKS! I love libraries... the smell of the books and wood melting together... mmmmmm

PS: no the movie is not in theatres yet... not here at least... maybe in Austria (not too far, but too far to drive there only to watch a movie)... we are patiently waiting! :-)

I'm with Daisy … Mmmmm, libraries.

I'm miffed that I'm missing open house at the Jet Propulsion Lab. More fool me for living six thousand miles away.
Darn it.

They really let you into the JPL??
I'd love to go.

... ya, a day of rest. I'm heading out for a leisurely breakfast, after I type this last word.

The marathon's been coming past my house since the wee hours. Thanks for waking me up, you cyclists whooping with joy at going downhill fast. The poor runners were cold and wet and didn't have enough breath left to waste on speech. How come it always rains on marathon days???

I'm tempted to go to the LA Police Museum.

I heart books, too, Daisy and Dive. I'll probably check out the sale at Altadena library, not that I need more books. Last year I got about a dozen hardcovers for $10.

Daisy, I wouldn't drive to Mexico to see a movie either! Let us know if/when you see Der Sandmann. Come here and give us a review!

Once a year JPL opens its doors for a weekend and you can talk to the scientists, see exhibits and ask questions. It's on my long, long bucket list. They'll be streaming video live from JPL today beginning at 2pm Pacific time for those of you foolish enough not to live here.

Birdman. Insisting on being the sane one.

Bellis, I must say it was unthinking of the city to allow the marathon to route through a residential neighborhood. I'm sorry for the runners, though. The festivities began at 5:00 a.m. and the rain slowed at around 8:30.

Is the Police Museum part of MOTA? http://www.laphs.org/

I've got a box of books to walk over to Altadena Lib. No more books for me, I'm on a diet.

The JPL open day is too good to miss! It'll be busy, but there's so much to see. It's not often anyone's allowed in there - even Caltech professors can't go beyond the front gate without filling in lots of forms and having an escort. And they give you a badge to wear that expires by going all stripey after a few hours so people can see your time is up.

I weed out books the way I weed out clothes--get rid of the lower quality stuff I'll never read again but keep the well-made classics and add as much new stuff as I can (until it's time to weed out again).

Bad luck on my part, Bellis. I'll have to get my stripey badge next year.

I went to the JPL open house last year. Definitely worth seeing. But I'm passing on all the festivities today. A couple of long walks around the neighborhood with Tommy is about all I can muster. Lazy Sunday.

I thought of those runners in the rain this mornings. I guess rain is better than blistering heat.

Sounds good, Susan. I went to the book sale at the Altadena Library and they had most of the fiction outside. I couldn't look at it all because my butt was about to freeze off and you know how I like to sit.

I guess so, Margaret. I guess I don't have to mention that I'm not a runner.

I'm with Daisy & Dive - LOVE books. Thanks for all these pictures. I moved away from Pasadena some years ago and am excited to be able to log on and see my hometown in vivid color!

Hello Mami Ngwa, welcome! I guess you moved FAR, didn't you? Well, come by any time and check in, I'm always glad to see you.
