Theme Day: Fountains

The first of the month is theme day, and we've got a good one: fountains.

There are many interesting fountains in the Pasadena area. This one's at El Molino Viejo in San Marino. El Molino Viejo was built and operated by Native Americans who lived at Mission San Gabriel in the early nineteenth century.

I was taking pictures for an article for South Pasadena Patch without a thought for the blog. But when the boy ran by (and I just barely caught him) he turned the picture into a theme day photo.

To see what other City Daily Photo bloggers are doing with the theme, check them out here. We're 1340 blogs strong now. That's a lot of international camaraderie.

P.S. If you'll be visiting the Pasadena area, you might want to read my latest article on Patch about the Arroyo Vista Inn.

So glad that you captured him before he could run out of your field of vision... I love this old fountain and the stones that support it.

I just added this to the post: "El Molino Viejo is a historical spot, built and operated by Native Americans who lived at Mission San Gabriel in the early nineteenth century." I don't know if the Tongva Indians built the fountain or if it was added later.

What a great theme, and fountain, and photo.

Yeah, I've complained about some themes but I like this one. People have done a lot with it today.

El Molino Viejo is small and lovely. Only takes a little while to visit, depending on how long you want to linger--an hour will do it, or even less. It's a pretty old building and the gardens are sweet.

Pretty darn good. A spec of time frozen. It works.

There's a story or poem here. Why is that kid running away? Is he "The Water Thief?" I love the way you aligned the fountain with the paving and the two arches. And I love the way the architect that restored the Old Mill in Henry Huntington's time kept it looking its age, like a villa in Italy or Spain. I'd recommend a visit if you like time travel back to the early 1800s.

Merci, merci, glad people like this one. I do, too.

Bellis, I think the story behind the boy running is that daddy was calling. But we could make up something better.

I'm late but I love the photo too. Love how the building and stone and fountain look so old, yet the boy in his puffy jacket is modern.
