Pearls Before Whine

It's been chilly here for a few days, so I wanted to post a photo that would remind me of summer. I like our hot, languid days. Not everyone does.

My Chicago friends are freezing right now (30 below!) and I'm not going to gloat. The night before last, Lake Shore Drive was closed down, leaving people stranded in their cars. In some places, Lake Shore Drive is like a highway. Closing it is like closing Sunset Boulevard all the way from the ocean to Silverlake. There was so much snow that workers couldn't get to everyone and some people were stuck for 10-12 hours. (30 below!) Many abandoned their cars only to find themselves in white-out blizzard conditions, lucky to find their way back to their vehicles.

So. No whining here. Instead I'll link you to a song that never fails to lift my spirits even when they're already good, and makes me think of my Chicago days in the warmest way.

Thirty below?? Stuck in cars 10 hours?! Oi. Sweet Boz can be happy he is not a Chicago dog.

Even so, your LSD song brought back some good memories. We used to live a few blocks from where Lake Shore Drive ended, on the North Side. And my first 3 semesters were at U. of Ill. when it was still in Navy Pier. So there was a lot of going back and forth on the Drive.
As cities go, nothing beats Chicago!
Stay warm, Petrea. Soon it will be springtime.

There ain't no road just like it. I love that song and sometimes I miss that city. Today is not one of those days though. Thanks for the wonderful memories of LSD, the road and Friday night trouble bound.

I adore this photo of Boz with the flower petals strewn out before him. He's definitely a Southern California dog, just like Tommy.

He is the Boz-dog, petals strewn before him. Perhaps I see a look in his eye that wonders why you've come without food?

I hope those guys put their shirts on. It's cold over there. Maybe the mustaches will help.

Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer
Those days of soda and pretzels and beer
Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer
You'll wish that summer could always be here.
(No beer for Boz though)

Wonderful photo. We're having a snow day, today. It's gorgeous, but you wouldn't want to drive it.

It's about 43 degrees here right now and sunny. I think I'll manage. Boz is lying on his pallet in the sunny back yard. He'll manage, too. And anyone who's met him knows food is not what he needs.

Angela, I didn't know you were a Chicago ex-pat like me. Yeah, today is not one of the days I miss it. Usually I miss my Friday night trouble bound days in June.

That weather out there helps me understand why the residents are called the chicago bears, ie, Polar bears!! Bears are the ones who feel most at home in that type of environment.

If I'm good in this life can I come back as Boz in the next? This fabulous photo really does say summer (and I like seeing the green bin in the background). Here's to more summer-like California days like these! (I'm actually so desperate for really warm weather that I'm heading way South for 2 weeks. I'll catch up with you soon!)

Don't bears hibernate in the winter, Cafe? Not Chicago bears, of course.

Katie, have fun! When you get back, be sure and tell us where you went...

Boz has been fed. And fed. My friends made fun of me tonight because Boz has so many beds.

what did you do to that poor dog?

Petrea said...

Ha. We feed him, give him water and walks, provide him with his own back yard, and just love him like crazy. It wears him out.

… lies … monkey lies … somebody help …

I think Daisy would like to be laying around that spot with Boz!!!

She's invited, anytime.

Damn. Now the readers can tell for sure it's really Boz because of the typos.
