While You Were Out

My friend's three-year-old has a home office. And why not? Mommy has one and so does Daddy. Plus, like most three-year-olds, this one is a very busy girl with important things to do.

It's an organized space, considering, although I have a feeling Mommy and Daddy have a hand in that. And of course when I was there, the CEO was out.

What a great space to inspire young creativity! I've read that many parents also reserve the domain name of their young children, too, for future use.

I admired this space, thinking the parents gave their little one a good spot with lots of natural light and a view of the garden to inspire her. I'd love to see it when she's been busy in it for a while, messing it up!

This is such a charming photo. The CEO's creations are proudly displayed in the window, and judging by the ferns below the easel, she seems to be focusing on botanical art, and learning to construct a painting by using a grid, just like Turner. I wish I could see the budding artist at work.

She's five, now, actually, but here's a video of her at three doing her art thing--just outside the office...thanks, Petrea.

Never say a parent didn't oblige a request for more pictures of her child. !

I love the colors. I'm very impressed with this young CEO.

Thanks for the video - she has real talent. Not many children of that age think so carefully about where to put the dots. Which gallery is she represented by? I'd rather have one of her paintings than a ..... No, I'll have to stop there. It's hard to name a trendy artist without offending half my friends, so let's just say rather than anything from Eli Broad's collection.

Woops! I'm sorry, Linda. You told me five and I messed it up. If I change it now it makes the comments look awkward, so I'll leave it. Thanks for the video; I love how her outfit compliments her art. But I think my favorite part is running with arms in the air.

What a wonderful room with that big window and the easel, paints and other art supplies! Lucky girl :)

Yeah, P, my favorite part of that video is her chasing the butterflies in the yard too.

Chasing butterflies, is that it? Oh, that's darling.

Ms. M, when I was a kid we had two giant, wall-sized blackboards. We wrote and drew all sorts of things. My favorite was to draw backdrops or sets on them and create whole atmospheres in the playroom. We were lucky, too.

That is a great idea. Too many PINK rooms with plastic toys. This is a girl who are lucky to have the chance to develop creative sides! Keep us updated!:)

I'd have trouble making art---I'd spend my time staring out the window! or possibly painting the window---in this house, I suspect that would be an okay activity---not so much in the one I grew up in.

how wonderful a space to expand a growing mind!

What a lucky kid.

Your title reminds me of a cartoon from the years before voicemail. A pad of paper printed "While you were out . . . " on which someone wrote by hand "God called."
I always took that as a personal message.

I was thinking of those pink message pads. I suppose they don't use them anymore.
