Theme Day: Photo of the Year 2010

City Daily Photo bloggers share a theme day the first of every month, and the first of the year we like to bring out our proudest moments. This is my favorite shot of last year, posted September 22nd: the Occidental College men's cross country runners at Hahamongna Watershed Park. They remind me of Pheidippides, or maybe just Greek gods. I love the sunset catching the dust at their heels.

Today also marks three years of daily blogging for me. There was a time this year when I thought I might not continue. After all, a daily blog is a big commitment. But the rewards are so many that I think I can keep going for a while longer. Thank you all so much for visiting. I appreciate each and every comment, each and every follower, each and every day.

Happy New Year!

City Daily Photo is now 1326 blogs worldwide, with new blogs joining every month. Today you'll see the best of last year, so I highly recommend you click here and visit some!

Your narrative is as delightful as your photo...well, almost since your photo is truly wonderful! I particularly like the sun "catching the dust of their heels." A small but hugely important detail.

I remember this one, you got the light just right - or did the light get you??? Either way a perfect, energetic photograph for beginning the New Year. Cheers!

Beautiful Shot! You can almost hear the sounds of their footfalls and breathing as they run along the path.

Oh Petrea, this is positively delicious! So beautiful. I'm so glad you will continue blogging and congratulations on 3 years so far. I know the feeling, of wondering if one can continue but I'm sure you are right, the benefits outway the work and time involved. I LOVE this photograph. Happy New Year to you both and Boz xxx

That is a great selection. With the fading light at their backs, it could have been captured many places.

Terrific, Petrea!

«Louis» wishes you all the best this New Year!

Thanks, all.

Maybe Tongva, PA? There was a Tongva village at/near Hahamongna.

I feel more connected to the parade this year, too, Ginab, thanks to Terry Griest's tour of the float pavilions.

It is a beautiful city! Beautiful today, if cold (by California standards).

I'm sure these are Tongva and you hit a time warp and got a brief glimpse into the past. Whatever, it's a timeless photo, one deserving of being framed. Happy New Year, John and Petrea and Boz, and thanks for giving us a daily treat. I hope for many, many more.

Ms. M, I hope you're staying cozy in Boise.

Bellis, I have Tongva on the brain, just turned in my article for South Pas Patch.

Everything about this image works so well. Congratulations on your 3rd anniversary! I'd be surprised if anyone doing this daily photo thing didn't have thoughts of stopping now and then. But, you're very good at this and you make a difference in Pasadena. I hope you keep it up. Happy New Year!

This is such a great shot that works on so many levels. What's that ... I think I hear the theme from Chariots of Fire. I'm glad you continued blogging. Don't look, but you've created another amazing Pasadena institution.

Congrats on your blogaversary... I am just taking it one day at a time and am in awe for those of you who have been doing this for such a long time.

Loved seeing the eagle in the parade today knowing that I saw him here first!

...And I was happy to see the seed pod thing-ys, which happened to be on the Camelot float! Three or four eagles, by golly, and surfing dogs! Yay!

Petrea Burchard said...

Thank you all for your kind words. I think I'll post this photo again tomorrow.

I missed the Camelot float and the eagle in question. I saw "Camelot" in the pavilion but couldn't get a good look at it because it was surrounded by other floats. Must now google.
