REM, DST and PDP

Daylight Savings Time ended quietly last night, sometime between periods of rapid eye movement and solid snoring. If we were paying attention we set our clocks back before we went to sleep, and that's good. But everything's a bit off today, and that's...off. You'll hear no complaints from our house, though, as even early darkness is a small price to pay for an extra hour with Morpheus.

I'm not so off that I don't remember it's Sunday, and time to announce Friday's winner of the PDP/PPM books contest. Tada! Congratulations to Trish, a regular visitor, commenter and former Pasadenamanian, and the lucky person whose name was pulled out of the hat yesterday by my cute, innocent neighbor child.

Okay. Here's what really happened: Trish's name was pulled out of a (clean) dog poo bag by my cute, innocent husband, because when I went out with the hat I couldn't find any kids. Where the hell are they these days? Is it soccer season already?

Anyway, like many of you, Trish guessed the correct answer to Friday's question: What historic building is now occupied by Technique Restaurant? It's the old Star-News Building. Trish wins a copy of Hometown Pasadena 2009-2010, courtesy of Prospect Park Media. Congratulations, Trish!

Stick around for more chances to win books this Friday.

Stunning. Thanks.

Maybe kid sightings will improve, at least if you're up early, now that we're off DST.

Congrats to Trish!

Thank you, and apparently we're all up early, thanks to the time change.

The clock says 6:00, but it's "really" 7:00. What's going on? Could it be we're...

OUT OF TIME

That photo is so pretty. I like the time change, and going back to standard time. I wish they didn't bump it into November now, and left it in October :/

No-one told the Cooper's hawk about the time change - it started hunting at dawn, and you know how loud they are.

Winter time was very unwelcome when I worked full time, and didn't get home till 5:30. I had to walk my dog in the dark for months - no more enjoyable evening hikes in the Arroyo or Hahamongna, only pavement pounding.

Time changes always leave me feeling a bit "off", as well, but it only lasts for a few days. Gorgeous photo, Petrea!

I love walking in the Arroyo at night, but not alone. Right now it's 9am and it feels like about noon. Boz and I are heading out!

Lovely photo. It looks like it's from a Hollywood film set:

Our cat was always ignoring these time changing "games". He never took them seriously).
We changed time on 30th October, I was 30 min late to my drawing class and suddenly, ola-la! 30minutes earlier. Surprise.
Lovely photo.

When the time change was earlier, in October, I used to start feeling "off" about two weeks before...then when the time changed, it felt right!!! Especially in the springtime! I love Daylight savings time...wish we had it all year!!! When I was working, like Bellis, I hated coming home when it was dark...felt like I had no home time, even though I got home at about the same time, winter or summer!!! I guess, since we moved to Mammoth, I've felt kind of off just in general...so didn't notice it this time!!! Kind of forgot all about it until it was here!!!

I hate Fall'ing back. Mostly because I hate total darkness at 5 pm. Grr!

And I woke up at 9:15 am this morning! WTH! I slept til noon yesterday. lol!

Thanks, guys. Glad you like the photo. This is one I messed with in the camera, as opposed to in post. Fun.

Susan, I'm honored to have my work compared so well.

Irina, I'm glad to know we're not the only nation that practices this insanity.

Chieftess, I'm sorry you've been feeling "off." Your move has been a huge change, I'm sure.

I got up at 5:30, J.J. I'd love to keep that up.

Yay, congrats to Trish! Not only has she won a beautiful prize, but few people could boast of having it drawn in such a unique and innovative fashion.

Truly. It was special.

This is really, really good. A great photo need not be complex. You nailed this one and then you hit it out of the ballpark.
