Friendly Skies

I liked this view when I got out of my car at the grocery store yesterday. I don't photograph clouds often, but that's because we don't often have them. These looked like they decided to squat right down on the roof.

I expected frenzy inside the store, but I guess that doesn't happen until Wednesday. Is it cocky of me to think we have everything we need for the week? (As I knock softly on my wooden desk.) I don't mind going back to the store if I need to, it's not the worst thing. (The worst thing is shopping for gifts the day before Christmas.) I only have one rule for the day before Thanksgiving: "don't travel."

If I were looking for Mr. Right, though, I'd make an exception this year. Boy howdy! Who knows? You might find Mr. Right at the airport. I hear the TSA's a solid job. So if you have to travel, make the best of it. When life gives you lemons, they say, make lemonade.

If you ask me, the world is crazy year-round, I just try to go along with it. On the days when I can't manage that I stay home or head for the hills.

Aysegul, we have such a dry climate that we rarely see clouds. For the past several years we've been in a drought, which makes them even more rare. We've had more normal rain this past year, though, and more clouds, which we've really been enjoying!

love the shot!

pick your age grouping---Joni Mitchell or Counting Crows---Big Yellow Taxi...the more we pave over LA County, the less rain we get, the fewer clouds we get. humnn!

glad YOU didn't have trouble shopping yesterday. I made the mistake of taking a friend to Costco, one who has some distractability issues anyway...glad they have gallons of whiskey at Costco...but it is hard to explain when you get to the checkout that the empty bottle DOES need to be charged for! ;-)

and a TSA quip...friends nearly got arrested the other day taking their young'ns on a flight. They had JUST taught the kids about strangers "not touching private places"...even tho mom went first thru the check, the older kid nearly decked the TSA agent feeling him up all the while yelling "DON'T TOUCH ME IN MY PRIVATES YOU CREEP! HELP!" Would be nice if the agents had SOME sense of understanding how hard this is for kids to understand...nevermind the rest of us.

I think I made a mistake...people told me to go to the grocery store last week for T-days supplies...I thought...no the storm was Sat and Sun so I'll just go down to Bishop on Tuesday, in between guests going and coming, and get my supplies...well...it's snowing heavier right now than it ever did this weekend...don't think I'll be heading for Bishop today...maybe tomorrow??? But I better get an early start!!!

ps...while we have the highest producing Vons in the nation up here, they tend to run out of things as it's the only grocery store up here...hence, the trip to Bishop!!!

For those who don't know the artist Shanna Galloway, here's her blog:

It's fun to talk groceries and privates at the same time. What an odd post.

Well, Trish, I understand the government's desire to protect us, but when they start making their employees feel up children I think they've forgotten their mission.

Chieftess, if you have to roast marshmallows for Thanksgiving, you've got each other and that's something great.

You sure that's not the steam rising above LAX from all the people yelling "Don't squeeze my lunchpack!"?

I can hear laughter echoing around the caves of Tora Bora. They've achieved maximum disruption with minimal effort.

Petrea Burchard said...

Seriously, Bellis. The terrorists have us dancing to their demented tune.

Marshmallows...damn...I still have to go to the store!!!

ps...it's REALLY snowing hard right now!!!

I think we've gone way over the top on this TSA thing...our founding fathers are all rolling over in their graves right now...I'm very concerned about the full body scans...radiation is cumulative in our human bodies and those who travel frequently have a lot to lose...and I don't relish skipping the scan and opting for the pat down...at this point, I'd consider curtailing the travel by air and sticking to road trips!!!

I'm fortunate to be going to a big Thanksgiving potluck in San Diego. The hosts (my youngest daughter's in-laws) are providing a turkey and a ham, and each of the guests is bringing a side dish! Whew...

It just occurred to me that I should send some pretty flowers for the table. Calling FTD!

One day, I got a call from a woman wanting to set up a payment arrangement for her federal taxes. During our conversation, I asked her the name of her employer. There was silence on the other end, then she whispered, "Promise you won't tell anyon?"

"Taxpayer information is confidential," I replied, "Can't tell anyone even if I wanted to."

"Oh, well in that case," she said, "I'm employed by the Department of Homeland Security -- as a member of the TSA. Jobs are so hard to come by and I had to take it."

"I understand, ma'am. Don't feel bad. I work for the IRS."

If that call had been recorded, our unseen masters would've heard a couple minutes of two women sharing understanding giggles... before we could go on about our business.

That's a funny and rocking post, Petrea. You made me laugh, and I'm sick (still! thought I was better but no) so I appreciate the humor. Great clouds too.

I love me a road trip, Chieftess! The problem is time, and they know it. They've literally got us by the cojones.

Ann, I'm so glad you don't have to fly to San Diego.

Speedway, that's the most delightful story. I feel sorry for the TSA workers, they're stuck in the middle. It's not like these policies were their idea. I hope the protesters will take it easy on them this week.

Okay, PA, I pumped up the color. So sue me.

Susan, stay home and get better! You've been sick for too long. (I had that cold for two weeks--never got the flu, though.)

Fantastic photo!! I had a view like that out of my office window yesterday.

Love the clouds! They dress up the store roof nicely, don't you think?

Petrea Burchard said...

Colleen, may those views always remain unobstructed.

PA: sing it, sister!

Susan, I hope you've got someone to bring you some chicken soup. Or turkey.

Ms. M, that building needs something to beautify it. Too bad the clouds don't stick around for the purpose.
