A Jones for Coffee (I'm sure they've heard that one before)

A fervent discussion over at Pasadena, 91105 and Beyond tells me coffee is of enough importance to--well, to spur a fervent discussion.

Coffee is also important enough to spawn workshops.

When I picked up the brochure at Jones Roasters I thought this was something new, but Jones has been offering Coffee Workshops since 1994. They offer an Introduction to Coffee, Intro to Cupping (what is cupping?) and even Home Brewing (we're still talking about coffee). The classes are inexpensive and kept to small groups.

The one I'd really like to try is already over for this year: Guatemala 2010. I hope they do a Guatemala 2011.

I'm not particularly emotional about the particulars of coffee. But coffee itself: yeah, I'm fervent.

Mmmmmm - coffee.
I read this as I sipped my second coffee of the day (I've just arrived at work) and my tastebuds are in heaven.
Coffee is life!

Sorry you missed the Guatemala 2010, Petrea. Plenty of time to hone your coffee tastebuds before the next one.

Been getting their Madison Blend for years. Just a great local place.

Nice sign!

Isn't that neon great? I covet that sign.

If he noticed, Steve, he didn't let on.

Dive, I don't know if coffee is life but it enhances life. At its best, a marvelous substance.

And I'm working on it, Shell.

What do you think of the new location, Michael? I think it's a great space.

Vanda, the sign is the centerpiece of the new location.

Hiker, I like it. But I wouldn't want it in my house.

Love the sign too but know where I don't want to be sitting (under) in the next earthquake.

Ah...I can practically smell it.

I do so like this photo. I could just climb into it.

Thank you for your correction of the pen-island: left-right. :)
How about planning an outing to the Getty on a sunny Saturday or Sunday? I'm sure there would be a lot of takers (well, I would be one). I am sure Judy (V's friend) would join since she lives right there. I agree with you and -K-, the art is just a bonus. Right now they have a really disturbing photography exhibit - I'd call it "people in peril" - powerfully sad images of war, crime, poverty, poverty, poverty, polution, street kids, aaaaaaaaah. So well done, so extremely sad.
PS - I heard that a famous 15C madonna & child painting is on exhibit at the Norton Simon. I'll probably make my way there in December.

I love this place and never know who I'm going to run into there.

Ah, Jones coffee. Some say it's the best in town and I might have to agree with that assessment. Last time I was there they had just moved into the new space, so the neon sign did not yet grace the wall. This lovely photo is the perfect lure to get me back there.

Anyone know why the word Jones is associated with coffee?

Petrea Burchard said...

In this case, Bellis, Jones is the name of the owner of the establishment. But there's also the slang, "I've got a jones," when you're addicted to something.

Tash, art museums are always a good idea. Let me/us know when you're coming this way!

Chieftess, Jones is just a few doors from where it used to be at 693 South Raymond.

Good coffee is mmmmmmmmmm!
And nice photo!

Such a good idea. Coffee is like food, we talk about it when we are drinking or eating it and then plan the next cup or meal...

Thank you, Ms. M!

Jilly, I agree coffee is like food in more ways than one. It literally fills me up when I'm hungry and keeps me from snacking.
