Door, 3

This door is a bit of a flirt. With her screen slightly ajar, she says, "come hither." Yet just inside her petticoat screen there's a giant lock on her full underskirt. I guess that makes her a tease. (Door is feminine in French--la porte.)

You might say she's plain, even simple. It's true, if you judge by exteriors alone. But what delights await behind her skirts?

She's for sale, or she was when I took the photo a few weeks ago. Therefore I'll cease with the metaphor. I wouldn't want to sully la porte's reputation. Besides, that changes the whole idea. A tease is exercising power.

Hee hee, Petrea. How enticing. I do love a come hither look.

I have to fan myself and lie down. That's some mighty fine door talk, Petrea.

I do love screen doors and we do not seem to put ones like this on houses anymore. A very clever little enticement too!

My my. Good story.

Ha ha. How you DO talk.

I was tired when I wrote this. No discernment left and this is what happens.

Genie, the best screen doors are the wooden ones, don't you think? None of this aluminum for me.

Now you've got me wondering if there are boy houses and girl houses. Is this how those little guest houses in the back yard are made?

P.S. Yesterday's was also a girl house, what with that bindi.

A most fanciful interpretation of the screen door. I'm seduced. Where is this house so I can go see it in the flesh?

Petrea Burchard said...

Good question, Bellis. There are some charming little guest houses in town.

Susan, this one's on the north side of E. Orange Grove Blvd. at the corner of Madison Avenue.

That's a pretty cute little narrative you've constructed. Normally, I wouldn't have given her a second look. But you've hooked me.

Well, with some girls (and guys) it's not looks but personality.

If this doesn't stop, I'm going to have to report this blog for posting graphic sexual content.

WV: snophaut: the well-to-do who live in Snop, a small village near General Toshevo, Dobrich, Bulgaria. It has a population of approximately 180.

I like this country-girl flirt. I like that you made me see something here that I wouldn't have on my own.

Remembering Streisand's 1969 Oscar night "pajamas," Winifred, otherwise known as The Door, chose black screen that would both veil and reveal the creamy white promise of her entryway. Always a bit "ajar," her choice would forever startle visitors.

Love this invitation :) A good creative exercise.

Wonderful interpretation...! I see her pulling her white cotton petticoats to the side.
I don't even know how to spell petticoats...(petticotes?)

And I want to wear them..!! I also want some of what you were on or had been sipping when you wrote this.

Earl, one of these days I'm going to get a good WV. Apparently not today.

Thank you, Hiker. I take that as high praise.

Pic for you, Speedway. Thanks for the memory. I think.

Ms. M, it was an exercise indeed. If I weren't writing for publication (or if I were writing for publication elsewhere) I might have taken that metaphor further, though I don't suppose there's a need.

You spelled it right the first time, Shanna. And it's an herbal Earl Grey Rooibos I found at Whole Foods. A poor substitute for coffee if you ask me.

Thanks for posting the locale. I drove home on Orange Grove today and it was only after I whizzed by Madison that I realized I'd forgotten to look for the house. Next time I'll pay attention.
