1001

Among City Daily Photo bloggers, one's one thousandth post is a big deal. I knew mine was coming but it landed yesterday, Zen Monday. I wasn't about to mess with tradition just to toot my own horn. I didn't want to pass it up, however, so I chose today for tooting.

But what photo to post? I tried snapping photos about town of street addresses. (If you live or work at number 1000 on any Pasadena street, thanks for not chasing me off.) But when I took a look at the photos, all those 1000s seemed wrong when I knew I'd be posting on day 1001.

I considered a "best of" shot, more Boz, more Hahamongna, City Hall, the Huntington and other Pasadena favorites. I couldn't decide.

I was looking up information on the Rose Bowl when I noticed the street address of our famous landmark: 1001 Rose Bowl Drive. How handy for my 1001st post.

Yay! Happy 1001st, Petrea!

Oh, that is just TOO perfect and wonderful about the address! It was meant to be. And what a photo! You have beautiful light in this shot. Big congrats. You know what's so wonderful is you've probably touched about 1001 regular viewers with the amazing community that has come together around PDP. This is a very special destination in the blogshpere. Great writing, great images, great people, great conversation. Happy 1001st post, Petrea. Here's to 10,001 more.

Congratulation! Everything is comming up roses. You have the best blog in Blogland. May your blog become as iconic as the Rose Bowl.
ps The University of Minnesota has played in the Rose Bowl game as recently as 1962.

Thank you all! I was excited when I discovered that was the Rose Bowl address. It couldn't have been more perfect. Locals may have other Pasadena icons, but City Daily Photo is an international family, and the stadium is our international icon.

Thank you for your good wishes. As most of you know, this whole blog thing has expanded my life in wonderful ways I couldn't have imagined.

Congratulations on this milestone, and on capturing the perfect photograph to celebrate it! Your site is a gift to Pasadena. Thank you!

It is all of you whom I thank.

Speaking of inspiration, Ben passed his 1000 mark this past summer.

So, is your blog now worth 1,001,000 words?

Margaret said...

Well done! Keep going! You're fabulous.

Petrea Burchard said...

Oh, Margaret, stop, you're too much. No. Don't stop.

Greg, my blog is worth as many words as you're willing to spend on it. The knowledge you've shared here is priceless.

Cliches are welcome, too, Jim. Thank you!

1001 Days!! Like Sheherazade, you've kept us enthralled since the day you started. (Although I wasn't following blogs when you started - I probably didn't even know what the word Blog meant. What was your first photo?)

Congratulations on this achievement - and here's to the next 1001.

Congratulations Petrea on 1000 (and 1001) posts! Not an easy milestone to achieve. Along the way you've earned your place among the best of the best. Well done!

What an amazing achievement, Petrea. I'm relatively new to the blogger world but I consider myself very fortunate to have landed in your sphere. I think the universe tipped its hat to you as well with that serendipitous photo op. Congratulations!

Happy 1001. Has a literary ring to it.

I knew you'd all say nice things. Thank you. This is the "hazard" of horn-tooting in blogville. People are so nice, it's like fishing for compliments.

Bellis, your comment set me thinking so I counted the days: 994 days, 1001 posts. I must have doubled up on a few days. My first post was January 1, 2008. In an example of how things come around full circle whether you think about it or not, it was a photo of the Rose Bowl Stadium, taken from the Holly Street Bridge.

Congratulations! I just recently began following your blog from the recommendation of a friend. It has been a pleasure to see pictures of the area, to read your words and the words of others, all of whom provide their own accent.

The Rose Bowl has a nice sign and a unique identity. We have "Lucas Oil Stadium" and "Conseco Fieldhouse" reflecting corporate interests rather than a flower. I don't think either name means anything around the world. However, we do have the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, so I believe the Rose Bowl and IMS have achieved their identity beyond any corporate intentions.

Bellis said...

What a serendipitous coincidence that you featured the Rose Bowl on both days!!!

I'm amused by something you said on Day 1:

"If I get a comment on this post every two years, that would be a hoot."

TheChieftess said...

Bellis...that is a hoot!!!

The first day in many weeks I've been so busy at work that I didn't have time to look. So, good all around.

Congratulations, and thanks for letting me play. RCB would be so proud!

Congratulations, Petrea. 1001, a space and time odyssey.

WV: hudecain. I don't know what it is, but it sure makes me feel good.

pasadenapio said...

Only a thousand more to go and you can do a play on "2001: A Space Odyssey"! Seems to me there's some joint nearby that's the perfect subject for that one!

We're gearing up for the exciting renovation of the Rose Bowl Stadium. I'm sitting in on weekly PR meetings. The financial plan will come to the city council in a few weeks.

It will cost way more than $1001.

Speedway, the IMS is definitely an icon. I knew about it as a kid, like I knew about the Rose Bowl. Maybe even more since I lived in Illinois.

Bellis & Chieftess, that's because Dina commented on it two years to the day after I posted it. If PDP is still around on 1/1/2012, we'll see if I get another comment on that post.

Ginab: I spent all day today in the attic, going through RCB's files and thinking of her.

Sending a big, happy hudecain your way, Mister Earl.

PIO, I'm no expert (that's my disclaimer) but that sounds to me like a good investment for Pasadena. If I make it to 2001 posts, I hope somebody at JPL will let me in to take a picture.

Merci Ms. M, and Merci J.J. Congratulations on getting to 300. In fact, congratulations to anyone who keeps up a blog. The internet is littered with blogs that haven't had a new post in months. When you can keep it up, you're doing something right.

Petrea, I'm also late with my congratulations, but they are heartfelt. Pasadena Daily Photo is a true accomplishment and it's changed my life too because it was through it that we met! You were also an inspiration to me to try my hand at blogging. Well done and I'm looking forward to the next 1001 posts.
