August Birthday

My friend just turned three. His folks threw a big party with family and friends, and an artist came to draw caricatures of all the kids. I wonder what wonders my buddy contemplated while he sat for his portrait. Perhaps he considered how blessed he is to share his birthday with his baby brother.

Perhaps not.

Meanwhile, baby brother contemplated a completely different set of wonders on his first birthday.

Happy birthday, my friends!

The caricatures are a great idea! Happy birthday, Petrea's buddies.

Thanks, Unseen Rajasthan.

Shell, the caricatures were really popular. After a while the adults started sitting for the artist. I think folks wore him out!

Seriously cute. Especially the contemplative look on the older child

Thanks, PA. It was early, before the party really got going, and he was the first to have his caricature done. He had a moment to be quiet before all the excitement.

I love this new tradition of a separate cake for the one-year-old to mutilate. Beautiful boys!

Such beautiful children, Petrea, and I really enjoy your photography. It is very cool that you refer to the children as friends. I wonder how many other adults do that? There need to be more, I think.

Susan, there was a little cake for each boy with their age and appropriate number of candles on it, plus a larger cake to share with the (many) guests. Big brother's table manners were a bit more refined.

Hi Scribegal, nice to see you! Some parents have asked me not to use their children's names, so I make it a general rule. And these boys are indeed my friends. The first time big brother spoke my name it warmed my heart. It means a lot that he thinks of me as a friend.

its good idea using the fingers ..

Will do, Chieftess, and thanks. I'm partial to these pictures.

Hello, one planet, and welcome! Yes, the fingers are always available for use, so why not use them? I agree.

I love the idea of a caricaturist at a birthday party. Maybe I'll get someone for my next one!

Wonderful photos! Especially powerful shot of the young man having his caricature drawn.

PIO, it was a hit. The kids took to it and the adults got in on the fun, too.

Ms. M, your words "young man" are apt.

I have to agree with PA and the chieftess: your 3-year-old friend's contemplative look is beautiful.

Gorgeous photos. Looks like it was a great party.

Loved that shot of the kid getting his portrait drawn. Love the look in his eyes. Very serious. Great capture.

He obliged my camera by being a beautiful boy.

A shade or two lighter and that first one could be a picture of my grandson.
A precious face they both have.

Isn't it great that Meead is going to be in Chicago, at Northwestern?!

Petrea Burchard said...

I didn't know that about Meead. I'd better check his blog! Northwestern is a beautiful campus. He'll love Chicago (though he'll freeze).
