The Bridge is Back

Do I recall we didn't have the Colorado Street Bridge party last year? Sure enough. The 2009 event was canceled due to budget cuts. Well, hallelujah! It's back.

Food, music, food, people, fun for kids and more food all begin at 6pm on Saturday night--that's tomorrow, July 10th. Discounted advance tickets are available until 5pm today. Sponsored by Pasadena Heritage, the party is a unique opportunity to hang out on the bridge without traffic--auto traffic, that is. There will be plenty of people traffic, I guarantee. And the extra information link at the bottom of the event page warns of other traffic as well: there's a soccer game at the Rose Bowl tomorrow night (what a great place for a soccer game!), so be forewarned.

Have a good time and take pictures!

I thought this was the underside of a roller coast for a moment! May you all have a jolly time...

Or better yet, a roller coaster...

Sounds like a very fun party; I hope it's a big success. Shell I was thinking the same thing about the roller coast(er) photo!

The photo was in my archives; it made me realize I hadn't been in the lower Arroyo for quite a while. Not a whole year, but months at least. It's lovely down there, and the view from under the bridge is majestic.

Thanks for the forewarning. If you live on the west side of that bridge things can get messy

The ellipse created in the negative space...nice

Stunning perspective - fisheye lens? That should be on next year's Pasadena Heritage T shirt. We love this party and stay till the end dancing to the old hits from Snotty Scottie and the Hankies. Maybe we'll see you there?

Hope you get to look at the native flowers in the Lower Arroyo Archery range while they're still in bloom.

Thank you, PA.

Not a fisheye, Bellis. The ellipse on the right side of the photo is created by the old bridge below the Colorado Street Bridge.

Awesome image, P! I've never been, and I really want to go tomorrow - but I was disappointed to find that you have to pay to get in to a street fair! I guess if food is included, it is a pretty good deal, but I would have prefered being able to walk in for free and avoid paying for food I might not eat.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure I can eat my way through the entry cost...

Maybe I'll see you there!

The money goes to preservation in Pasadena, Ben, so it's a good cause. And knowing you, I think you'll eat. There's usually a local brewer there, too. ;)

Actually it looks like there may be a couple - Craftsman and Eagle Rock.

The bridge, which is owned by the City of Pasadena and an important part of our infrastructure, would have been torn down for good several years ago had it not been for Pasadena Heritage championing its historic importance. Thank goodness for that wonderful organization! Love the photo, by the way.

Thanks, PIO. Do you know if it's true that Pasadena Heritage was formed as the rallying cry around saving the bridge?

pasadenapio said...

No, they were formed as a rallying cry to save Old Pasadena from demolition, which led to all the wonderful preservation efforts there.

The bridge was PH's second project.

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, they're a great organization and we're lucky to have them. I wish my hometown in Illinois had had something like them before all the chain restaurants took over.

Love the angle, Pasadena Adjacent put it wonderfully precisely. I appreciate Ben's point, but there are all sorts of fees that need to be paid for the permits needed for the event.
Still there are few things as sweet as being on the bridge on a hot night and feeling a breeze coming from the arroyo.

I sooooo like that photo. Suicide Bridge speaks in many different languages -- romantic, mysterious, sad, monumental.

We're here one more night...then off on vacation...don't know if we'll make it...it's an event I've always thought about going to, but never have...have fun everybody!!! Pasadena Heritage has done a wonderful job preserving old town Pasadena...glad they're responsible for saving the bridge as well!!!

And I love your photo Petrea!!!

Ben (and all), there's a fee to attend because it's the annual fundraiser for Pasadena Heritage. It's a real steal at $15 for adults and $7 for children, considering most fundraisers for non-profits cost $100 or more.

It's so, so, so much more than a street fair.

The event is on the bridge as well as the adjacent Defenders Park.

By the way, if I see or hear one more person call it Suicide Bridge, I'm going to throw myself over the side.

I take one night off and look what happens.

Chieftess, safe travels to you and Dan. We will miss you but see you soon.

Has anyone seen Ann today?
