Weekday Afternoon

I've been to the Coffee Gallery, oh, about a thousand times. But I've ceased to be alert for photos in the places I frequent, which may be why this one showed itself--because I wasn't looking for it.

I was struck by the contrast of black against blue: the stencils in the window, the chairs against the light, the man's silhouette.

I like the photo precisely because it's not spectacular. Just Altadena, going about its business.

Yes, lots to love here, Petrea! Is it warm outside? That sky looks gorgeous!

I like this photo too. I wish I had such nice ideas. But now I'm inspired.

So many great details in this photo. Looks like a lovely place to sit and sip and watch the world go by. I like the UFOesque coffee cup stencils on the window.

We're finally getting our warm weather, Shell. It came late this year, and I'm glad it's here.

Thank you, Steffen, what a nice thing to say.

Katie, maybe I should have sat on the ground to take this one, so those UFOs could have floated on the blue!

It's gently daring to have the contrast. I love the little lights. This is such a lovely contrast to the way we usually see interior/exterior photos - dark inside, light outside. What a lovely study.

A thousand times? Then, this has gotta be your fav coffee place.

Thanks, Roberta, glad you like it.

Cafe, I have a lot of favorite places and I don't want to declare just one. Because of their two large meeting rooms, Coffee Gallery turns out to be a good place for meetings.

I like the way the image looks like one of those black-paper cutouts (I've forgotten what they're called). When I first saw the picture I thought you'd found a new cafe called Panache, because it didn't look like the Coffee Gallery.

I go to Coffee Gallery all the time but it took me a moment to reconcile this image with the images in my head. Beautiful contrast.

Cafe, I realize I didn't give you a very good answer. I'm soooo diplomatic! But I really don't have a favorite coffee place. Yet.

Bellis, when J and I lived in Altadena we called this place "Awake and Open" because that's what the sign said, as we headed south on Lake Avenue in the mornings on the way to work.

Thank you, Susan. It took me a second, too, when I was standing inside by the door, for the sight to click in my head. "Hey, I should take a picture!"

Love this photo! And the coffee shop looks like a nice place to sit and enjoy a cup.

I have to agree. Sometimes the familiar things escape us. You were on it! V
