Pasadena Sandwich Company

I kept meaning to try the Pasadena Sandwich Company but there was never a parking space in front.

Well, duh.

There's a parking lot in back. They have plenty of parking.

Inside they have plenty of clocks, plenty of hats and plenty of food. My Veggie Supreme was so big I was able to eat only half (great bread).

And I had to post two pictures just to show you the hats. It's a hat wonderland. I'm sure there's a story behind it but they were closing (don't try to go after 2:30pm on weekdays, 3pm Saturdays, closed Sundays). I was the last one in there and I didn't engage the waitress in that particular conversation.

By the way, the waitress was as nice as pie. Hmm. I'm looking, I'm looking...I took a menu with me... Nope. No pie. But sandwiches galore, all kinds, very fresh. Also sides, green salads and drinks (tasty pink lemonade). Simple.

And hats. I don't know why. I don't want to know. The hats give the place a certain je ne sais quois and knowing why would defeat that mystique, don't you think?

You are so right. Ours not to reason why. Just to enjoy the place.

The hats could be for the same reason that Pinnacle Peak tacks neckties to their walls.

PSC has a sandwich with coleslaw on it that's TO DIE FOR (if you're a mean lover)! Can't remember the name of it but it's on the menu.

Great...now I'm hungry. ; )

Whoops! That's 'meat' lover.

Right, Dina. I had planned to take mine to go, but when I got inside I changed my mind.

Funny, J.J.! It must be the "Chicago." You can see it on their menu if you click the PSC link in the post. It sounds like a mean sandwich.

Maybe this is where you go if you lose a bet to eat your hat. WIth cole slaw, of course.

WV: carawne. Do they put carawne in the cole slaw?

Glad you made it! What did you end up ordering??

I don't know, Mister Earl. Some of those hats didn't look all that fresh.

Ben, I had the Veggie Supreme. It was huge and delicious. I'll bet you love this place! You are a sandwich guy. But wait...they don't have beer.

Never mind the hat --- how was the bill?

Our favorite breakfast place has pennants on the wall...one was dated 1964...I was my granddaughter's age...I'm pretty amazed that the health dept hasn't said anything...

Do you know how much I love hats? I wish we all wore hats everyday. I'm sorry we stopped doing that.

They are also open to all comers on Thanksgiving - anyone who doesn't have a place to go is welcome there, for free. Very, very cool.

Har har, the bill came to $10.75 including tax and my pink lemonade. The $7.50 sandwich, by the way, was so big it was enough for my lunch yesterday and John's lunch today.

Chieftess, are those pennants dusty or something? I think someone's been dusting the hats at PSC.

I've seen some cute hats this year, Margaret. But the fashion of knit caps in the soCal summertime doesn't work for me.

Hi Caroline, it's nice to see you here. That's a wonderful tradition, and one I didn't know about. Hats off to the Pasadena Sandwich Company! I happen to know the owner has a very long commute, so let me just say: what a guy.

I had a roast beef sandwich to-go a couple of years ago that was so big I couldn't even take a bite. I made a second sandwich out of all that meat.

Apologies to vegetarians... I am a lapsed veggie myself but someday I'll go back. Will have to try the Veggie Supreme next time.

I really like the clock collection, but I imagine it would be hard to keep them in sync, which would drive me nuts!

*Tsk *tsk on the restaurant management. If one's food is that good one ought not charge for a sandwich that lasts for two lunches. One ought to charge a reasonable price for a portion that will have the customer come back the next day, if one's food is that good. Not saying it's not that good, and I will try for myself, it's just a silly business model in US restaurants - and this is coming from a fat guy.

I love the "baseball cap mystique". Only you would come up with that, P!! :)
We'll go here next time, n'est-ce pas???

I'm with Greg. It looks like an inviting place to go for lunch - provided there's a doggy bag. Why are American food portions so enormous? To me, a sandwich is two small slices of bread with a bit of butter spread on them, some cheese, and a sliced tomato. It keeps me going till dinner time. I don't put on weight. I'm glad you eked out your sandwich for a few extra meals, Petrea.

Petrea Burchard said...

Susan, they make the sandwiches so thick you can't get your mouth around them if you're delicate like I am. :)

Hello Paula, and welcome. I hadn't thought of that but it would make me crazy, too!

I don't know, Greg. The place was packed with regulars, they were pulling at the doors after they were locked, and I guarantee you I'm going back. Something's working.

Virginia! Can't sleep? How nice to see you. I have several baseball caps myself, but only one of them has a baseball team logo on it (Chicago Cubs). I wear them hiking, to keep the sun out of my eyes. I don't suppose any of that is relevant.

I guess large portions are what Americans have come to expect, Bellis. I remember a restaurant in Washington State where the entree I ordered was enough food for four people. It was obscene. The waitress told me they threw away a lot of food. No wonder we have an obesity epidemic. Then again, is I recall my trip to England, I'd have paid the same amount for two slices of bread and a tomato in London ten years ago as I paid yesterday in Pasadena for enough food for two people!

Oh, and a ginger ale.

Looks like an interesting place. Nothing like a really great sandwich :)

TheChieftess said...

thanks J+P, I think I'll pass on that sandwich...but would you pass the Ginger Ale???

Petrea Burchard said...

I figured if I left that one alone long enough someone else would tell him the truth.

Shout out to Ms. M!

Diana said...

Well, duh, indeed -- I can't tell you how many times I've just passed it by because there wasn't any parking out front, so thanks for telling up about the back lot!

Amy said...

I hope the hats are all new and not the kind that have been a top heads getting grimy and sweaty for years. ;)

I am a fan of the sandwich, I look forward to checking this place out!

Petrea Burchard said...

Diana, I'm glad I'm not the only one. Maybe I've done a service here!

The hats all looked to be in good shape, Amy. Let me know what you think.
