Last Day, June 2010

June marks the tenth month of the Last Day Project. The idea is to take a photo from the same vantage point on or about the end of each month, and view the changes over a year's time.

If you click the link above or the "Last Day" label below, you'll see Johnson Field is drying out now as it always does in summer. By September it'll be entirely parched.

I think this proves to the rest of the world that southern California actually has seasons.

I wouldn't have expected to see a pastural scene like that in Pasadena for some reason -- but then I imagine at one time it all looked that way! Very beautiful

I liked comparing the current photo to the previous ones. To my mind, 2010 has brought some of the best weather to SoCal that I can remember. We've had rain, we've had many cool days, and we have recent pictures of green fields to remind us.

It was really a nice idea to found the Last Day project.

LD, this is one of my favorite places in town--Hahamongna Watershed Park. People keep wanting to build things there (our current battle is soccer fields) but so far it remains semi-wild.

Ah, Shell! You've figured it out!

WCGB: Most people feel the way you do. I've been bundling up, but that's just me.

Steffen, I got the idea from Marley in Cheltenham, England, who hasn't been posting much this year. But many of us remember his blog fondly.

This is a great photo. I love the depth that you captured. It almost has a 3D look to it. Well done.

In the original master plan for Hahamongna, this field and the one to the right of it were going to be soccer pitches, with parking. Glad they dropped that plan and decided to leave it alone.

Thank you, Mark.

Bellis, are you trying to tempt me? Well then, I'll just say it. The soccer fields are now planned for west of here. If some people have their way, next year there will be flood lights in this view. More on this next week.

I so love this series. The colors this month really appeal to me. Everything changes. Thanks for giving us the eyes to see. Steffe has done this with a view from a bridge near him. I just think it's magical. Our own little slow time lapse cameras on the still-wild world.

Because you're an actor, I'm wondering if you have placed a mark where you are to stand for these shots :-).

I know just the kind of paper, too, J.

Kim--yes! I do have a mark. Two, actually. One on the ground and one visually. It's nature, you know--things move, so I've got my bases covered.

Similar to my Millennium Diary. I did a pastel drawing /painting every month of the year 2000 looking out of the same window.
Each month did and still does have its own look.

Petrea Burchard said...

Shanna, that's the same general idea, yes. Sounds like yours was an amazing project.

I always thought of March as the lushest month and seeing this whole series, now I have the proof. Or you do. You have the proof.

Gorgeous evidence, at that.

I think so, Linda, at least this year it was.

Thanks, Chieftess.
