Last Day, March 2010

Every time I take one of these Last Day photos I think, "This project was a crazy idea. The view is the same every time." Then I compare the shot to the others and I'm amazed how a place that supposedly has no seasons can change so much in so little time.

Johnson Field is looking a bit shaggy. I love that.

Click the Last Day Project tag below to see them all and compare.

I didn't catch on to the clever Last Day project till now. I love the subtle but definite changes.

It's a fine project, Petrea, and I love the field with the unshaven look, too. Named after Don Johnson, I see.

Break a leg tomorrow, Petrea! And thanks for reminding me. There will always be a new....

I enjoy your 'last day' photos. Fun to compare them and see the seasons. Don't stop!

Shell, that's so funny. Now I'll always think of Don Johnson when I see that field. Especially in summer, when the shaggy grass becomes designer stubble.

Love these! Keep it up!

I just looked at the post again and Tash, I think I was a bit cryptic! I'll edit it to make the story more clear for people turning in to "Last Day" for the first time.

It is officially spring, is it not, Roberta? Eleonora says it is. That's a welcome reminder to check out her blog and see how spring is looking in Rome!

Welcome, Lucka! I've seen other bloggers try it, notably Marley (http://cheltenhamdailyphoto-marley.blogspot.com/). He's not blogging much anymore.

Shell, that's funny! Like Bellis, I will now always think of Don when I visit Johnson field. I don't know if that's good or bad.

Thank you, Anonymous.

Thanks, Brenda. I think I'll do it for one year in this spot then perhaps try another.

Designer stubble, Bellis! They will come and shave it soon, as they must, for fire season.

Amy thank you. Will do (see my note to Brenda, above).

Don Johnson on fire. He used to merely smolder.

It is a brilliant concept, Petrea - especially fun to view them all in a row.

J+P... I nearly choked about Don Johnson smoldering!!! I think by now he has to fan the flames a bit to get them going!!!!

Love the concept of the project Petrea!! It is very cool to see the changes in this area...and yes...I believe March 21 is the marker for the first day of Spring!!!

Perhaps it will be a Last Day photo, if certain folks in Pasadena have their way in dropping a soccer field onto this scene.

Petrea Burchard said...

Pascal Jim, I was quoted in Larry Wilson's latest story on the subject. (Proud and pleased to have been quoted, I admit.) I'll post about this soon. In the meantime, click on http://savehahamongna.org/ if you don't like the idea of soccer fields at Hahamongna.

One reason I don't like them is that, if the floods are any indication, our tax money is going to be wasted on rebuilding them every five years. I have many other reasons not to like them, though.

Pascal Jim said...

I would be more pleased if Wilson had taken a NO stance in his light weight article...I have expressed my opposition to this disaster to be placed on Wetlands...
to the Arroyo Seco Foundation...

Forgive my soap box interuption to your lovely post site...

Petrea Burchard said...

I would have liked that, too, Pascal Jim. I would like to see all Pasadenans rise up and give a final NO to all development at Hahamongna. This battle shouldn't have to be fought over and over again. You are free to get on a soapbox here any time.

Please go to savehahamongna.org and sign the petition.

Awesome photo! I think this is my favorite season of all. And now I'm thinking of linen suits and socks without loafers for some reason.

I want to see all the pictures, side by side.

Here ya go.

It's a good thing I wasn't drinking coffee when I opened up your link J+P, I'd of been spewing it all over!!!

I’m thinking, mister Grey was actually one of my heroes in my younger days, I even read him.

I think Altadena is the center of the earth....I really think!

Anonymous said...

I'll take the "Blame" for that.

Petrea Burchard said...

Sedge instead of serge, perhaps, Katie?

Here ya go, Hiker.

That's what I'd like to do with those pics. If they were that good, I would.

J, you made me and Chieftess spit out our coffee. (Mine was decaf. No loss.)

Oh, now, Anonymous (Anonymouses?) you have me wondering who you are.

Bellis said...

I'm going to study your photos closely and work out how fast that little sycamore's branches are growing. At first glance, it always looks the same, doesn't it?

J+P, how could you? My heart went bumpety bump when I saw those photos - I was in love with him in the Miami Vice days, you know. Pity he got older (as I did).

Makes one want to roll around in that lush grass!

mark said...

A fine photo. I love undisturbed nature. If my lover ever saw this field she would grab a blanket and insist on some intimate pleasure. Works for me.

Ms M said...

I really like how you've documented this same spot through seasons. The grass looks so lush here; the scene is gorgeous!

Ms M said...

So where is Don Johnson today??

Katie said...

J+P you are SO on your game today. Now I don't know which I like better, Don in a white linen suit with a purple t-shirt, or a purple linen suit with a white t-shirt. Oh the choices I have to make.

Petrea Burchard said...

Cute new photo, Bellis.

Alas, PIO, shall we tell mark what will happen if he and his lover roll around in that grass in flagrante? Dear mark, the field is encircled by a busy trail and you will be viewed by children on horseback, cyclocross riders and more than one bemused dog.

Ms. M, he's filming a movie and looking fine for a mature male:

I will go with the teal, Katie.

I'm sorry I quasi-derailed this post with Hollywood hooey. To quote a departed gentleman*, "[Don Johnson] can shit in his hat and wear it backward, for all of me."

The fate of Hahamongna is of immediate moment. Everyone who care about wild open space in Pasadena should hurry over to savehahamongna.org & sign the petition.

If we don't tell the city councillors & their staff to protect that delightful place, they're liable to use their own discretion & do something irreversible. To quote another gentleman (not quite departed)†, "The last person you want using his own judgement is someone in the legislature."

Please. We have so little wild acreage left. Go sign the thing. Y'want clover for old Don t'roll around in …

The changes throughout the year are fascinating, Petrea....great project!

Have a fabulous salon. I wish I could be there.

They might be slight changes, but they are really cool to see. I think this is a great idea. :)
