State of the Blog

In PDP news:

Editor Colleen Dunn Bates of Hometown Pasadena has named Pasadena Daily Photo on her list of Top Ten Experiences in Pasadena for 2009. PDP proudly shares the #9 slot with Timothy Rutt's powerhouse Altadenablog.

The San Gabriel Valley blogging community is a thriving, generous, positive place where I've been encouraged and buoyed by my fellow bloggers from the very beginning. I'm grateful to Colleen for her recognition, and to all the bloggers I've met for being such cool people.

In PB news:

Each year Pasadena's mayor gives a State of the City address. This year's theme is "Charting a New Course." A video will be presented to go along with the theme of Mayor Bogaard's speech. I auditioned and was chosen to do the voice-over for the video! It was a fun experience and a real departure from my usual :30 second and one minute spots. Linda Centell, Pasadena's assistant Public Information Officer, edited the video.

If you're in town, you can attend this free event on January 28th at 6:30 p.m. at LaSalle High School, 3880 East Sierra Madre Blvd. For more information call (626) 744-4311 or email Inagahiro (at) cityofpasadena.net.

You are in a good state, Petrea.
A big mazal-tov to you.

As we say in old Hebrew, "May you go from strength to strength."

Super achievements--congratulations! This photo reminds me of Mexico where wrought iron is very commonplace. It's a beautiful design.

Hilda said...

Oh wow, congratulations for both, Petrea! I love the peek into your world — in your news and in your photo.

Leif Hagen said...

Kudos! Congrats! I love the ironwork over the window and the view behind it! Tres bien fait!

Thank you, Ben. You're one of the people who lifts Pasadena's blogging community to high levels.

That's a beautiful saying, Dina. And I am in a good state right now, it's a good feeling. Thanks.

Kate, thanks for reminding me that I need to add the location in the labels: it's a view of the courtyard at City Hall.

Thanks, Hilda. That peek into worlds is one thing I love about visiting blogs.

Leif, it reminds me of a Parisian view. It reminds Kate of a Mexican view. It's a romantic view, for sure, even if it is City Hall!

I have looked at other Daily Photo blogs in the network and some of them do not seem to understand the "daily" part. I admired your diligence. I know you can load photos/entries ahead of time and have them published on a given date (you talked about putting some in the bank for episodes of blogger's block), but the site always seems fresh - every day :)

Congratulations on the voice over and the top 10 list.

Congratulations, Petrea!

You've been the eyes and ears of Pasadena, and now you'll be the voice.

Your dedication to providing us with a fresh take on life every morning is paying off, hurray! But I hope you won't stop doing PDP if you get too famous?

Linda Dove said...

Congrats on these recognitions of your work! So very well-deserved.

Amy said...

Congratulations! Well deserved on both accounts. :D

I'm with Greg - your diligence is unmatched compared to all the other daily photo blogs I watch.

I guess I should have titled this post "Horn Toot," but I didn't have a picture of a horn.

Thank you, everyone. It is very nice to be recognized. Greg, I do post every day, unless I'm on vacation (which has been rare of late). Sometimes I know a theme post is coming up, or I have a holiday post in mind, so those I can prepare ahead of time. But usually the photo inspires what I write, and I don't know which photo I'm going to use until the day I post it.

Bellis, you're back, I assume? Safe and sound and warm.

I just love this photo, both for the iron work and the fabulous details of the scene behind it (architecturally interesting city hall, tiled roof, rose beds, etc.). Very cool to have your voice over talents and blog/photographic skills recognized! Any way those of us not near Pasadena to hear that video?

A replay schedule on KPAS for the State of the City event will be announced a day or two later (I have to know the total length of the program first so I can book it into the existing programming schedule).

Then you can go to my City of Pasadena webpage and click on Video Streaming on the right side of the screen.

There are many of these windows at Pasadena City Hall and you have captured this one beautifully, Petrea.

That was my question -- so glad they're going to have the broadcast available online. I'll listen -- I'm sure you're fabulous.

Amy, daily blogging is not for everyone! But there are plenty of daily photo blogs that never miss. I bow to the amazing Paris Daily Photo; Eric Tenin approaches his 5th blogiversary March 11th. To my knowledge, he hasn't missed a day.

Katie, I think I took this photo the day you were in town, soon after you got on the train. Carrie, Gary and I went to City Hall and clowned around for more photos and camera-derie.

Thanks, Ann! I'll post it, too.

We shall see, Karin. I don't think I've embarrassed myself but I admit to being grateful for good editing and modern technology.

Congratulations!!!

Maybe I'm being thick here but has this happened already and you've already done the voice over? or?

Anyhow, I'm aware of your talents having seen you perform in the theater and have no doubt you will ace this (if you haven't already).

Congratulations all the way around. Well deserved.

Congratulations on some well deserved recognition. "Mere blogger," hah!

And, I watch the state of the city each year. It is quite a production. Congrats on that too (and thanks for letting us know).

Petrea Burchard said...

Thank you kindly, PA. I've already recorded the voice-over. It has been edited to match the video, and a few people at City Hall have listened to it to make sure it's up to snuff. The public won't hear it until the 28th, so I suppose that's the official debut.

Thank you very much, Ibarionex. It's going to get better this year as I post more and more Canon photos. Fingers crossed.

Michael, I've never attended the State of the City event. I guess I'd better dress up.

Allow me to add my congratulations as well.

Very nice creative framing of the building through the grated window.

Bravo, so well deserved. beautiful photo too.

Congratulations, Petrea! Way to go!

And nice photo looking through the lovely ironwork!

Thanks, everyone. Friday was a red-letter day.

Wow - what an excellent choice they made!

"Pasadena's blogging community is a thriving, generous, positive place..."

I totally agree, especially when you stretch the boundaries a bit to include South Pasadena and Altadena. (They know who they are...)

Petrea Burchard said...

-K-, that's what I meant. Thank you for correcting me. I'm going to edit the post! Can't leave out Altadena and South Pas even by accident.

Congrats! Great way to start the new year!

Congratulations! You are both an inspiration and an encourager. I always love your comments on my work as well as your stories adn photography; you deserve the gig and your place on the Top 10 list. Keep up all your great work and I'll continue documenting my mini road trips in and around Los Angeles. Have a great week and enjoy the upcoming rain (I hope...).
