Panoramania

Please enlarge this one.

John got a photo-stitching app for his iPhone and now he's as bad as I am. Everywhere we go, we're both snapping pictures. A couple of addicts.

Me: snap, snap, snap.

John: snap-turn, snap-turn, snap-turn.

We now have panoramas of our house, our street, Hahamongna, the mountains, the dam, the dog, trails, valleys, beautiful things, weird things, dead things.

Yesterday the light was glorious for taking photos, basking or sniffing. Boz is so over photography.

(The app John's using is Autostitch from Cloudburst Research.)

It's lovely to see one of the Hahamongna zen gardens in its entirety. I'm so glad they've turned green again! Can we now look forward to John's Pasadena Daily Panorama blog?

This is beautiful!

If you crop the black out of a Pasadena panorama it might look good in the header of the blog, not that it doesn't look fine now :)

By god, this looks like York -- and I don't mean York Avenue.

(My dogs hear the flash go off and come running in to model. Like little child stars.)

I want to see the panorama of Boz.

I'm a little worried about panoramic dead things... Though that is a great name for a band.

This is mighty lovely, Ms. P. And your new avatar is tres cool.

Very nice. Looks like a great place for a walk. Well done.

We are photographin' phools.

You callin' Boz a phool?

Petrea Burchard said...

Wow! Seems I don't have to post anything but panoramas for a while, if the photographer's willing.

Greg--that band reminds me of a pop band from my youth. Say, wasn't Davy Jones the lead singer for the Panoramic Dead Things?

I'll ask Mr. J. if he'll allow me to post more of his iPhone panoramas and maybe we'll make it a regular thing. They're really fun and he's got some great ones.

Yes, more. I definitely need this app.

That's The Cars - Ric Ocasek singing, or maybe Ichabod Crane.

What's the name of the app? I need this one!!

Petrea Burchard said...

I updated the post with the app name (Autostitch) and a link to the developer's site. It's $1.99, has 4 1/2 stars at the app store.

Don't worry, Greg, I'd know Ric Ocasek anywhere. Just trying to Shake It Up.

I've always meant to try photo stitching. It just sounds hard.

This panaroma is well worth any effort though!

Maybe you can train Boz to take photos. He could have his very own dog blog and become famous!

I want to discuss that avatar. I fear heat-seeking missiles.

Petrea Burchard said...

I just downloaded it, Amy, so I haven't tried it yet. But I think it's pretty easy. Though I must say J's a brainiac.

Is it off-putting, Hiker? Should I go back to the pink?

Petrea Burchard said...

There. Pink is friendlier.

You win.

Well done! Beautiful scene!
Looks like you're having "phun" with photostitching...

I am absitively, posolutely calling Boz a phool! Cliff, you know dogs laugh with their butts.

Linda, you need this app.

Very snappy.
Enjoy.
Those who snap together stay together.

I'm jealous and it's not because this is a beautiful photo (I like the tree dead center dividing the panorama) Good Job Mr J.

Last Sunday Mr V and I were hiking Will Rogers State Park. He wouldn't wait for me while I was waiting for a couple to move out of my shot. A miscommunication occurred and we didn't catch up with each other until after dark two hours later. He had the car keys, wallet, water and cell phone.

scary

Even though I took it, I think it's a beautiful composite. The sensor in the iPhone is pretty crappy, so the shifts in exposure and tint are my attempts to compensate, in the moment, for its idiosyncracies. Too, panoramas blended by this app are reduced in resolution by a barbaric 50% … so they don't blow up very well (except on the web).

But in all this fuzzy loveliness, has anyone spotted Petrea? I meant this as a portrait of her, with her camera, in her element.

Petrea Burchard said...

Phun. I like that.

PA, it feels like, in that moment, you weren't supported in your art, then there were the water/wallet/cell phone consequences. I'm sorry.

I thought it was a photo of the phool.

This photo is absolutely stunning!

Natalie: John has done several of these and granted me permission to post more. I think they're great.
