Zen Monday is the day you experience the photo and give us your thoughts rather than me telling you what I think the photo's about. There's no right or wrong. It means what you think it means.
I look for a photo worth contemplating or, failing that, something odd or silly. And I stay out of the comments box for most of the day to avoid influencing the intellectual path of the discussion.
As I post each new Zen Monday photo I add a label to last week's to identify it if necessary--if I know what it is.

This mystery confronts me daily as I turn from Los Robles onto Woodbury. When the blow-out sale was added, the mystery only increased. Knowledge + Fortune= Happiness?

Advice for shoppers: keep your eye on the prize.
Obviously a pyramid scheme. They should move this store over to Pharaoh Oaks. Otherwise their customers are likely to desert them.

This is a curious sign indeed. We locals see it regularly.
What's not a mystery is that in this building (next door to the Fraternal Order of Eagles), there's an African and Caribbean Market, what looks like a defunct chiropractor's office, a potentially cute but unsung resale shop, a church and a sports shop that looks like it might be doing well (they're having the Blow Out Sale!). It's all on Woodbury at Los Robles across from Hen's Teeth Square, which I featured here earlier this week.
But the mystery Michele refers to, I believe, is the sign. Google turns up little about A.D. Moon except this. Kinda fun to read.

Elaine, although someone apparently blew their top--or at least blew the whistle--about the owner of the sign, I hope they leave it on the building. It's kind of a landmark.
I have a different take on this photo, more serious. As some of you know this building is across Woodbury from the Pasadena landmark "Hen's Teeth Square." When Mr. Moon bought this building and proceeded to remodel (read destroy} this iconic Streamline Moderne style collection of storefronts, I and others were appalled. You wouldn't imagine that a classic Streamline Moderne lounge bar facade was just in the right of your picture, now obliterated. This all happened across the border from Pasadena in L.A. County (read unincorporated Altadena) where we historic preservationists have no jurisdiction, but even Pasadena's Planning Department wouldn't have let something this ugly go up or allowed such plastic signage, much to their credit. Unincorporated Altadena, far from the rulers (L.A. County Board of Supervisors) and also far from the zoning rules which parenthetically preserve the viewshed (what we look at) would be well served to incorporate and do some design review, also of signage, to limit such abominations and other examples like the infamous three story garage also in this general area. I know Altadenans, you like quirkiness, but some quirkiness is over the top unsightly and won't improve with age, this being a case in point. O.K., off my soap box for today, I'm all zenned out!

Thal, I learn something new from you every time you check in. This one happened before my time; I'm just waiting for the Altadenans to come and disagree with you. I love a lively discussion.
If it's any consolation, click on the link in my comment a couple of comments above. Seems Mr. Moon might be getting his due.
Good riddance to A.D. Moon. I will post a rendering of the great Deco style lounge which used to be at this location, obliterated by Mr. Moon's alterations, on my Avenue to the Sky soon. There is so much hidden history in this area. By the way, the Dazee Thrift Shop is a jewel and it's been at several other locations on North Fair Oaks before here, just like the Caribbean Market (was on Washington just west of Lake in the historic Oversen Building) and Walt Butler Sports (Walt has been all over the place, the last location was on North Lake a few doors north of Washington on the eastside, where the Costume Company now is), all seem to be looking for cheaper rents, but a less inviting location, particularly less inviting with the look of this facade. We hope with the documentation we have this facade might be brought back to its historic look once again. The Eagle's Lodge, just to the east of Mr. Moon's property, was once an Art Deco style Safeway, and the facade has been covered up, also could be restored! We have pictures and hope!
I wish all these merchants good luck. The fact that there's parking might help, and now there's a flea market held periodically in the Eagle's parking lot (I love that building). Dazee's been there a while, seems to be doing fine.
