Theme Day: Waiting

The first of every month at the City Daily Photo blogs we play variations on a theme. This month's theme is "waiting." I had planned a different photo but when nosing around through my stuff last night I came across this sorry pair.

I don't know about your dogs, but Boz and his friend Sprocket can't seem to amuse themselves. They're always waiting for a human to come along and entertain them. I can't remember if I was coming or going when I took this but from the looks on their faces, I must have been going.

To see how other City Daily Photo Bloggers around the world (over 1100 now!) interpret today's theme, click here to view thumbnails for all the participants.

Finally, a post about the Sprock! I've been, um, waiting …

mmmm, waiting I drink a photo.

Sprocket? Boz has a buddy? A buddette? Yayyy! And how fine, too.

Dina said...

It's true, humans can be quite entertaining, if you wait for the right moment.
Wait, who is this fine shining Sprocket? Yours?

Laurie Allee said...

Who is Sprocket?! Boz has a significant other?

Too cute.

Okay, NOBODY can top Ben's wonderful theme day post over as Sky is big in Pasadena...

If I recall though, don't dogs entertain themselves and each other by digging holes?

I am so glad that the photo isn't what I actually thought: homeless dogs WAITING for adoption. Our pets certainly are patient with us, aren't they?

lovely take on the theme

Dogs wait for us, one of the many reasons they are so amazing. They wait, they don't judge, they are happy to see us - always. Lovely choice for today, Petrea.

Dogs do like us to entertain them. We think it is the other way around. Not!! MB

Great shot. Dogs will wait forever for their human's return...

Forget all that, let's get to the nub. Is he spacely?

Oh dear, the face of abandonment!

Oh poor guys, my dogs are the same, although our newest, Bella (she's a coon hound) would be just as content following her nose through the woods, I'm pretty much invisible then, lol

Isn't that always the way with kids? You invite a little friend over for a play date and they wait around on you to think of something for them to do!! Go outside... dig some holes, find some fleas, *grab the garden hose and pull it till the faucet comes off, chase your tail, lick, lick, lick, but just get outta my hair for a while!

* My Baxter really did that once. For the love!!!

I've featured Sprocket many times over the last (almost) two years. He's Boz's best buddy, a dapper young guy and Boz's partner in crime. He was the star of Zen Monday 11/23.

Laurie's right, check out Ben's post today. You'll be rewarded with your own smile.

Cliff, is that Pogo talk? I have no idea. I'll have to get John to translate.

It's more Hannaish-&-Barbaraish

Dogs wait; they spend a lot of their lives waiting. I'm counting how many dogs show up for the "wait " theme (8 so far, plus mine...)

Glad Boz has a friend, while he is waiting for YOU!
Wilson is part of my waiting theme shot too today.

Ahhh, how could you have walked away from these two. They look so forlorn!

Great photo for the theme.

No one can shoot a look like a boxer.

Petrea Burchard said...

Aw, gee, you'd think I'd get a Jetsons joke.

In Three Rivers: I'd love to know the final count. Yours looks like a sweetheart.

Lori Lynn, if ITR didn't stop by your place, that makes at least nine.

Marley, do you have a dog? I don't know how they learned to guilt-trip us humans, but one must be strong if one is ever to go to work, run errands or even have time with friends.

Hiker, thank goodness Boz isn't a purebred, I'd never even get to the grocery store.

Bellis said...

Boz has such a hangdog expression.

Oops, I've just googled that word. It can mean downcast, which is what I meant, but it can also mean guilty or sneaky, which Boz certainly isn't. I learn something every day from your photos, P.

John Sandel said...

I think Boz—& it's my dog we're talking about, here—looks like a greaser caught smoking behind B Building, during Econ class. Sprocket raises his head and whispers "Lunch money!"

And slowly they advance on the geeky photographer …

Petrea Burchard said...

Bellis, thanks, but I think you learned that from the dictionary!

J, you could be right. But I'm not scared. Geeky, but not scared.

Bellis is right to use "hangdog," either way.

Petrea, I fear my obliqueness will always be out of phase with you, but fortunately you have John to interpret.

Ummm, you did get yesterday's reference, I assume? ;-)

Petrea Burchard said...

There was a reference?

Tom Lehrer song:

When the shades of night are falling,
comes a fellow everyone knows.
It's the old dope peddler,
spreading joy wherever he goes.

Every evening you will find him,
around our neighborhood.
It's the old dope peddler
doing well by doing good.

He gives the kids free samples,
because he knows full well,
that today's young innocent faces
will be tomorrow's clientele.

Here's a cure for all your troubles.
Here's an end to all distress.
It's the old dope peddler
with his powdered happiness.

Petrea Burchard said...

Lehrer's always welcome in my neighborhood, but not the peddler, of course.

So funny and so perfect for TD. They are just like kids of today - need external influence to amuse them.

Natalie DeJohn said...

I love the photos you take of your dog! I can't seem to get enough of my pup. They are the best photo subjects.

Petrea Burchard said...

Thanks, Natalie! I know the feeling. Only Boz often refuses to look at the camera.
