Sparkly and Cold

I finally went out last night and got pictures of twinkly lights. What I won't do for you! It was freezing! The web said 50 degrees, but it was blustery enough for a substantial wind chill factor. Plus there's the Petrea chill factor, which subtracts another fifteen degrees. We're talkin' cold.

Last Christmas I went downtown for photos. This time I headed north. I was looking for the Star of Palawoo. I found it, but with houses and trees in my sight lines I couldn't figure out how to get a good angle on it. You'll get a better view either by driving up to Loma Alta just west of Marengo or by viewing the Altadena Weather Cam at night. It's worth it--well, it is if you bundle up. Such a pretty thing.

I opted for this pretty thing for today's post. These folks on New York Drive just east of Allen put up their Tour Eiffel every year, and every year I enjoy seeing it sparkle by the road. It's also a nice reminder that it's snowing and/or raining in Paris right now, depending on whether or not the temperature manages to get above 32 degrees.

Thanks for going on that blog mission, Petrea. Pretty lights in the dark.
It was under 50 degrees this morning when I headed out in search of Santa in Jerusalem. Found a live one!

You caught it! And in spite of the tornado last night. It's Christmas early for the dogs because two soccer balls blew into the backyard and before I could stop curs, they were already in a pick up game.

congratulations Petrea!!! I just googled city daily blog looking for the phoenix blog, and your blog came up second on the google list!!!

As much as I complain, Cafe, I concede that it was not Illinois cold last night.

Hee hee, Vanda!

Merci, Laurie!

Shell Sherree, I thought of you when clicking the shutter.

You must have met the real Santa, Dina. I'll come and see what you got.

Exciting for Phoebe and Albert, Karin. I wonder how or if their minds process such things. But dogs don't need explanations. They accept what arrives, greeting each new thing with extremes of joy or sadness, which ever is warranted.

Thank you, Chieftess. I had to try it of course. The search string "city daily blog" brought me everything but PDP, but the second one was Gem City Images, our friend Kieth in Monrovia!

Clear, starry nights at this time of year mean it's time to crank up the heater and bring out the woolies!

It read 5.5 C on the car thermometer here. Glad you are inside and warm again. We are enjoying the fun lights of le Tour you snapped for us. I see the pyramids, too and it reminds me I have friends traveling in Egypt right now. I will be in NorCal and hope it is a bit warmer, although the sun is out here today and it is lovely.

Very festive and French!

PIO, I might as well attach my space heater to myself.

Hi Kim! Egypt might be warm enough right now. I think northern California will be warmer than Seattle, but not by a whole lot!

Maria, merci for the bisou! I thought the Francophiles among us would like it.

Good one, Greg.

ET Suzy doesn't usually check in here, Virginia, but the fact that you do makes up for everything.

Gotta love the French, eh Marley? Even if you're a Brit? Or maybe not?

I've always wanted to get a night photo of the decorated trees on St. Albans Rd (at Huntington) but mine always turn out blurry...most likely because I don't know what I'm doing. lol!

It’s that time of year again! I’m doing the rounds and apologising for my complete failure to more regularly offer comment on everybody’s incredible efforts for the year. I know how hard it can be to keep up with the daily grind of everyday posting, and want to thank you for your efforts.

I especially want to wish festive greetings for all from down here at [nearly] the end of the world, the bottom of Tasmania.

So, if you could delete whatever is not applicable, I’d like to wish you a very pleasant/merry/happy/wonderful/safe Amaterasu; Ashurall; Beiwe; Choimus; Christmas; Dazh Boh; Dongzhi; Goru; Hanukkah; Hogmanay; Junkanoo; Karachun; Koleda; Lenæa; Meán Geimhridh; Modranicht; New Years; Ras as-Sana; Rozhanitsa Feast; Şeva Zistanê; shōgatsu; Summer Solstice [if you're in the Southern Hemisphere]; Sviatki; Vánoce; Winter solstice [if you're in the Northern Hemisphere]; Yalda; Yule-tide; Ziemassvētki; and Коляда!

With a hearty three cheers from Kris, Jen, Henry and Ezra!

Yay for the Eiffel Tower display! If I had a house I would definitely want one of these in my yard for the holidays. I'm leaving for upstate New York tomorrow and I have a feeling my thin California blood is going to go into serious shock. That's going to be a whole different kind of sparkly cold. All my best wishes to you, John and Boz for a wonderful Christmas!

Thank you kindly for going out into the cold!

I want an Eiffel Tower in Christmas lights, that is sooo pretty.

Petrea re Chuckeroon. I was alerted to his fall by Letitia (Freefalling) ex-from Ararat DP. This internet thingy is really only 3 degrees of separation.

I love the light displays this time of year! And of course you had to get this one -- we must have the Eiffel Tower at Christmas! :)

BTW, it is Illinois cold here. In the 20s and teens.

Petrea Burchard said...

Tripod, J.J. That'll help a lot. We humans can't hold ourselves still enough and at night it really shows.

Thanks, Kris!

Wow, Katie, you're going to need to muster up your Minnesota memory for this one. Merry Christmas and enjoy the snow!

Amy, you could make a sparkly E.T. tree ornament, I'll bet.

Julie, thank you. Letty was one of the first bloggers I met and I think she's the greatest. I'm glad to see her online again. She's been off and on, but she's got good reasons of course.

I don't doubt you've got your share of cold--Idaho cold, Ms. M! I've experienced it myself and it rivals Illinois.
