Zen Monday: #71

For those who've been following the Eliot School tour I have another shot or two so we'll get back to it tomorrow. But Zen Monday is PDP tradition and we must have it.

Zen Monday is the day you experience the photo and give us your thoughts rather than me telling you what I think the photo's about. I also stay out of the comments box for most of the day, so as not to influence the discussion. I look for a photo worth contemplating or, failing that, at least something odd or silly.

As I post each new Zen Monday photo I add a label to last week's to identify it if necessary--if I know what it is.

Unless they have them in all the restrooms there, that's the men's room near the conservatory at the Huntington. I've always wondered why Mona hangs there. She must really have something to smile about. Here's another shot of same.

Marcel Duchamp's living room.

I've been to a bar where one of the ladies' room stalls had a full size Captain Kirk on the wall.

Maybe it's a trend in public bathroom design.

The New improved toilet for the New, Improved woman of the 21st century.

You've come a long way baby, uh, Mona!

That urinal has a very enigmatic smile.

Altadena Hiker knows her Fountains. I call it "A visit to the Loovre."

"A Visit to the Loovre" - that's too clever. I'm bowing out.

Actually, it is a little known fact that da Vinci actually painted the Mona Lisa for the Interior Designer of the Medici Palace...the Medici matriarch specifically requested a painting for the Medici patriarch's bed chamber, to hang over the chamber pot...

That's not an enigmatic smile, it's a smirk.

You know, I can't pee when someone is watching......

Has anyone ever left a pair of swimmer's nose-clips for poor Mona?

J+P said...

It is a true work o'fart, though.

Docker, you had us right off the bat. Still, it didn't stop this crowd from mixing the haute with the low brow. Even I couldn't resist.

Virginia, I've credited a guest photographer with this one. J took it with his iPhone. He has a good eye for the Zen Monday style.

I love today's references to art, music, historic bathrooms and that famous Mona Lisa smirk.

Oh, crap.

I had a string of clunkers I didn't deign to post—so here:

Suddenly, her smile doesn't seem so enigmatic.
The famous Mona Lisa smirk.
Sorry, wrong master piece.
Is that a crack in your varnish or are you just being glad to see me?
Not the only well-hung thing in this room.

&c &c …

OK, I've got to ask. What's hanging in the women's bathroom? The Laughing Cavalier?

Petrea said...

Har har!

Katie, just so you know, there's a Huntington joke in J's list for you.

Bellis, if I remember correctly it was a poster listing an upcoming event.

I was going to go to the women's room, but I can't top Bellis.

The ultimate classics: Marley's "Depends on the man as to whether she smiles" and Margaret's "Oh, crap."!!!! Very fun post Petrea!!!

This did turn out to be fun. Thanks to J for his eagle eye and ready iPhone.

Two days later, it occurs to me that urinal has a piss-drinking grin.

A vile smile, Cliff.
