Politics and grammar aside, your signs in yesterday's comments were more fun.
Bellis is a cagey one. She knew where we were but she didn't let the secret out. Thanks, Bellis. Let's tell it today: we're heading south on St. John Avenue. from California Blvd.
Along here, people have just hopped off the freeway and are still on their speed high, zipping by a city park and pretty, craftsman homes. Two side streets south of the park come to an end at St. John. I wonder if they ever went through? They're lined with shady, mansion grounds, quite nice and a little incongruous. It makes me very, very glad there's no 710 freeway in Pasadena.
Bellis is more than cagey, she's prescient. We'll continue south on St. John tomorrow to a photo I didn't take of that famous fork in the road. I want you to plan a trip to see it this weekend and tomorrow I'll tell you why.

Glad you reminded me.
Ha.
I've only recently explored those cut-off side streets between Orange Grove and St. John's (because I had to make a special effort to park and walk) and found some beautiful historic houses still quaking in fear of the 710 freeway. Then I learnt it's called the Governor Markham district because California Governor (1891-1895) Henry Markham had a house here (on Markham, I'd guess). My favorite is 346 Markham Place.
Its a beautiful spot to park and walk, Bellis. I think the 710 freeway's an awful idea.
Singer Park (California @ St. John)
was the former residence of you know who. Just South, is the home of Pasadena Heritage @ 651, they welcome visitors and helpers..........
I wasn't sure what this meant 'til I looked it up. It sounds like a challenge, clean money, but a good idea.
I love multi-layered messages...
Pascal Jim, I don't know who.
Paula, agreed. An even playing field.
Like a sandwich, Susan. No. Cake.
I meant to tell you, your new avatar is very sweet and clever. Very Petrea.
It looks like a lovely area. I hope it's not in danger of becoming an extension of a freeway.
BTW, my WV is "ratized". Sounds political, doesn't it??
Without the other sign, one could get the wrong idea about election funding in Pasadena. Pretty neighborhood for a walk.
I'm glad you like it, Karin, and thanks for the compliment. John took it. He has a good eye.
Mz. M, you radical! Yeah, people before my time here really fought that freeway. I guess the fight still rumbles.
This is just a block from what used to be millionaire's row, Katie. The mansions are still tucked in their hiding places.
