I've been taking a vicarious vacation on Turquoise Diaries lately because Aysegul's visiting the most glorious places. Yesterday she said she loves Ghost Whisperer, which was shooting at the Pasadena Public Library last Friday (see yesterday's post). So for Aysegul, here's a shot of the library's main hall, in case it shows up on Ghost Whisperer.Something I recently discovered about the main hall: you can drink your coffee in there! I KNOW! (Oops. Shh. I mean, I know! I was shocked!) I've visited the library's coffee shop many times. Central Grounds is outdoors on the front patio. It was the first stop in my quest for the perfect coffee shop in which to write (a quest I promise I'll take up again.) But it wasn't until last Friday, when it was nine million degrees out, that I discovered I could buy my coffee at Central Grounds and take it inside to the air-conditioned comfort of the main hall. (I'd make the main hall #10 in The Quest if I didn't think it was cheating.)
You may not drink your coffee in the stacks. You may not have it in the computer room or the study rooms or beyond the reference desk. Only in the main hall. But click on that picture and enlarge it. Isn't that a nice place to plug in your laptop, drink your coffee and write?
Lovely as it is, I don't suppose Aysegul would trade places with me. Not even for a glimpse of the Ghost Whisperer.

I love the symmetry of your shot. The room is magnificent - look at that ceiling and the lights! Great for any kind of whispering, I say.

Coffee and rare books (presumably there are many there) are not a good combination. (The books are hard to swallow).

Put a few large portraits on the wall, and it could be the dining room of Christchurch College, Oxford, which is also the dining room of Hogwarts! Wasn't John Cleese a poltergeist there in one of earlier movies?

It is a great room, isn't it, Elaine? I always feel good there. And don't worry about the coffee, Dina. Those brightly-colored books you see on the right are all manga. Not that I disrespect manga, but it's not like anyone's getting coffee on the Magna Carta.

Linda, it may be a money-making ploy, as I think the only way in without going through the stacks is through Central Grounds, so you'll have to get your coffee there.
Seems just right, doesn't it, Des? With everyone around you concentrating, you can't goof off, it's too embarrassing. (I mean the general you, of course.)
I do love how libraries smell, V. And now we can add that hint of coffee aroma.

Coffee in a library?! I never thought I'd see the day. Though I have such a bad history with coffee and spilling, that I would be terrified to take advantage of such a privilege.
With or without coffee, but preferably with, that looks like a terrific place to sit down and just read read read.
I am reading your post a bit late, but thank you very much for posting inside the library for my GW adventure. I always love libraries, but as you have said I am very happy where I am right now :))

Great shot. My daughter is almost 2 and we're here every Tuesday for story time in the summer. She LIVES for the library and is enamored with the librarians. I often envy the people relaxing with their coffees as I chase her around.
Bec, your daughter sounds a little like I was when I was little. My mother was strict, so I probably didn't run around much, but I've been enamored of libraries and librarians since I can remember.
