Hometown

It's Jacaranda time in Pasadena.
We've got a lot of blogs here in town. A lot of good ones. For keeping up with what's happening the best one is Hometown Pasadena, managed/operated/lovingly filled to the brim by editor and publisher Colleen Dunn Bates, who seemingly can do no wrong. Right now she's got a couple of pretty shots of the jacaranda trees along Del Mar Blvd

Then again, what hasn't she got? It's a mind-bogglingly fabulous website that functions like a blog, or about a hundred blogs. I don't know how she does it, but she does it so well.

Ahh, that's the kind of litter on the ground that I like.

Me too, Dina! I didn't realise you had jacarandas there, Petrea. They're a distinctive part of our landscape. We tend to associate them with final senior school exams for the year, as that's around the time they usually bloom here in Brisbane.

Ah, Petrea, you're so kind. I must admit that is way more work than I thought it would be, but it's sure fun. I do so love this town, and the people in it -- especially the bloggers!

Good litter! Right, Dina. It makes me feel special to walk through these petals.

Shell, I think Australia and the American West share similar climates. That and the cowboy stereotype.

Colleen! Good morning. I don't know where you get the time to come by. I breeze around Hometown Pasadena and hardly know where to start! I hope you get time to attend some of the events you cover. I'm going to try to hit Vroman's tonight for the Alice Hoffman event, which I know about thanks to you.

That's funny: I had to post a few quick shots I took of the same trees for all of my out-of-town friends (make them jealous): http://tinyurl.com/qu53ln

I agree with Shell: it always makes me think of end-of-school, since the kids will finish up next week.

U can say that again CDB! And, I'm only a non-daily blogger. I may become a commenter only rather than a blogger & commenter.

Of course, CDB has a few nice websites, but her blog is only a part of her vast HTP website.

Another beautiful thing I miss about Pasadena! UCLA also has lots of huge Jacarandas, and is a great place to have a picnic lunch among the trees!

Wow, Colleen's blog is chock-a-block with great info.
But yours is YOU, and equally lovely. I like this photo so much (and admit to having taken the Brooklyn equivalent: the ground littered with cherry blossoms).

Ah, I love Jacarandas.

I love the shots, Loren, and I friended you, so look out.

It's true, Maria--the gloomy skies accentuate colors. I'm working on a post about that for tomorrow.

Pretty wedding, too, Linda.

What a nice thing to say, mg!

Right, Cafe, and Colleen posts more stuff more often than anyone I know of.

Thank you, U.R.

HM, you're giving me ideas for something to do tomorrow.

Alexa, how nice of you to stop by on the day I was thinking of you! You were so funny on PDP yesterday and I've been picturing you at work today. There must be a vibe working here.

Me too, Margaret.

I had Hometown Pasadena on my blogroll almost from day one (well, as soon as I learned of it, anyway!). It's such a welcome addition to our eclectic Pasadena area blogosphere.

What a beautiful photo, Petrea. I love this time of year in Pasadena: a little drizzle and a lot of purple flowers.

How have I never seen jacaranda trees before? They're so lovely! It's almost Seussian how purple and fluffy they look, lining the streets and littering the ground with their colorful petals!

That's a lovely photo! Do these blossoms have a strong fragrance?

Petrea Burchard said...

Me too, Ann. I always tell the story of the first edition of Hometown Pasadena, the book. J & I were delighted to open our gifts that Christmas morning. We had each bought the other a copy. We didn't return one. We kept them both.

Maybe it's our dry climate, toast. I'm not sure.

Ms M, they have a fragrance. To me it's kind of a sickly smell. A lot of people don't notice it, though, because it's mild.

your picture tells the untold story of those trees -- while although they are very beautiful they make quite a mess. a blessing and a curse.

Sneaky, Jennifer. New blog name. I like it.
