Stef's Fame

FINAL UPDATE: Here's the post on the ABC NEWS website, and here's Stef's post on his blog.
The interview looks great. Check out the video!

Another update: Stef is learning how actors feel when we're pre-empted: his segment will not be on ABC World News Wednesday 5/27. Maybe Thursday, 5/28. Fingers crossed.

Update: Stef's appearance on ABC has tenatively been rescheduled for Wednesday 5/27.

A lot of people around here are artists of one sort or another. It's why we live here. We can ply our trades. We can act, write, paint, draw, create music and do the things artists do (you know, like wear distressed clothing, wring our hands and drink coffee).

So it's no big deal for me to say I know an artist. Who doesn't? But I know a famous artist. Or I'm about to.

If you've been around this blog for a while you've occasionally seen my links to Stephane Kardos. (My apologies, Stef. How do you get an accent aigu into blogger?) Here's Stef outside his Altadena studio. Stef's from France by way of London but I'm sorry, they let him go and now he's ours. Sure, sure, he's known for his fluid sketch work. He's got that coveted Disney job, blah blah blah. Small potatoes. I think Stef's prices are about to go up because he's going to be on ABC World News with Charles Gibson this Monday at 6:30PM. The crew was at his place for five hours Friday, so there ought to be a good thirty or forty seconds' worth of material.

Stef is often inspired by a photograph on a local blog (the second iPhone painting was "after" one of mine).

Oh Laurie, I have something of yours. I think it might be valuable. It looks nice above my mantel, don't you think?

He's good! I'll have to remember to watch the show. And I've heard good things about Hi-Life too. I need to eat there soon. lol!

This is so cool, P! I remember when he commented and linked to those iPhone artworks. Those examples were part of what nudged me to get an iPod Touch and then download the "Brushes" application. I can do nothing even close to what he does with it, but he certainly is an inspiration. I wish I could tune in. Best wishes, Stef!

Oh, thank you, Petrea! I've checked out your links and love Stéphane's work. And that iPhone application is really natty. I'm glad to know of it - I can't justify upgrading my phone yet, but this has just put iPhone ahead of the Berry for me!

As I was in Pasadena only a short time I only saw a small part of a lovely place. I'll be back one day.

J.J., I've never been to Hi-Life either. I guess Stef has, Laurie's photo of it sure inspired him.

Hi E, I was thinking about you last night. I've unhooked my TV too, but I'll be at a friend's barbecue and will just have to skip out for a few minutes.

Hi Shell! (Stef, just in case you're reading I've already checked, "natty" is good.)

Hello Yvonne, feel free to visit here on PDP any time.

Thanks Anonymous. The trouble is when you bring in outside characters Blogger doesn't like it. It would be worth it for one with the right typeface, though. At least we can use them here in the comments section, eh?

Congrats to Stef! He is wonderful!! I love the style and vivid colors he uses. I hope I catch the interview. My husby is a graphic designer with an i-phone. I need to ask him what you guys are talking about. :)

Then, I'd better take Stef up on his offer to paint this dog before his prices shoot through the roof of my doghouse!

I've been 2 the get-Hi Life Burger joint in So Pasa. I even did a rest review a few mths ago on it. I'm a regular there - I eat there every few years...

Otherwise, I'm reserving comment on the pics on the womantle.

OH very interesting your blog!

Petrea! You're an art thief! Gimme my print!!!

Now, how am I going to get Stef the print I've been holding for him? (Maybe you'll steal that one too!?!?)

I'm so excited about Stef's TV coverage. Those iphone sketches are so brilliant -- I think Apple should make him their official artist.

Oh, and P, if you hear noises in the night coming from your living room -- don't get up, I'll be sure and close the window behind me...

Petrea Burchard said...

Isn't he though, Shan? I don't know what we're talking about either. How can you paint on a phone? But he does it.

Soldier wife, thank you for following. I really appreciate all the new followers! The past few days have been a lot of fun, a little overwhelming and worth it.

Hiker, so do I. Thanks.

So how was the review, Cafe?

Thank you and welcome, Lyvinha!

Laurie, Laurie, I'm sure we can work something out. Maybe a little trade. Meet me at Hi-Life. Back booth. Midnight. Bring cash.

P: ck my review - I have a blog you know!

Laurie: Steph just said he'd arrange to meet you in de South of Pasadena if you then take him to the secret places you hide your vintage cars in SoPasa.

Thank you very much Petrea :) It was great to have you around. And thanks to all of you guys for your support, I really appreciate :)
As Petrea said, I'll be on air for probably 45s :)
Laurie, get your Iphone painting before Petrea ask for a ransom for it :)

I'm so excited about Stef's appearance on national TV. I should probably learn how to use my TiVo so I don't miss it.

Woot Stef!

I'm clearly too late. I was going to volunteer to take the painting off your hands, but there are too many others ahead of me.

THIS IS SO COOL! You are the best, Petrea. What's really fun also is to have met all 3 artists!
(I really want one of Stef's sketches of Ronnie's garage.)

Why did Boz only want to pose for a pic with J - but not with P? Is there something we other K9's don't know?

John Sandel said...

'sfar's I know, Boz took'n the petchure of P at the airport …

I do like the notion of "distressed" clothing. It just needs a sit down and a nice cup of tea!

Is he single? if so, we need to introduce him to Monica!

Petrea Burchard said...

Ms. M., I admit I tucked in a few extras from my office shelves...

Rose, our Stef is happily married to the lovely Tina. Monica will have to find someone in Paris, poor dear!

that place sounds so nice and cool, I wish I could go there, cause I myself considered an artist on my own... :-)

couple days late, and a few dollars short...but I'm catching up on blogs.

LOVE Steph's work, but I have to say, what caught my eye was of course, the prominent artwork at the bottom of the blog. I love everyone on the shelf as well, but Hi Life...oooh, you've got my hungry for a single right this moment...and yup, it's not even 7am yet.

Petrea Burchard said...

I haven't been there, Trish. Guess I'd better go.

By the way, Stef's bit was pre-empted Monday for Memorial Day stuff, and will likely air tonight. He was mentioned in New York Magazine this week, too.

See what you miss when you don't read PDP every day? Darn it!

Best wishes to Stef from Scott and I, both admirers of his work.
