Update 3/30/09: A few days after posting, a "for sale" sign was hung on the wheelchair. As of this date, the chair is still there.

Looks like someone's been reading too much Carl Hiassen-- in Strip Tease there's a character who's a wheelchair thief. On the other hand, the author did say he based it on an actual case

That is just a downright bizarre photo. I would think that wheelchair thievery would be rather uncommon in Pasadena.

Laurie, I was going to answer your question by saying, "This isn't a birthday post, it's a Zen Monday post." But if it's Zen, it is what it is.
I have favorites, as I'm sure you do. Did anyone make you laugh out loud today? A couple of you got me good.

Thank you all. Sometimes it's not easy to find a subject interesting enough, or odd enough, to qualify for Zen Monday. I get nervous when Friday rolls around and I still haven't found my shot! (Boy was I glad when I saw this wheelchair.)

Once upon a time I had to use a wheelchair but I was lucky enough to have a small one for inside the house and a portable, easy-to-fold model in my van. Maybe they wheel out to the car, chain it up and then it's waiting for them when they get back? There are wheelchairs in lots of stores nowadays. Looks like a smart move to me.

My God, who would still grandma's chair?
if anyone has ever been to a rest home, care home, multi-level care home...you name it, you know that chairs wander off easily. Many get tagged with names, numbers and other identifying marks.
and if you have ever been in need of using a chair, you know its value, I don't think chaining it up is unreasonable, Pasadena or elsewhere.
Looks like they stole grandma & left the chair. Be still, my octogenarian heart!
Wild wheelchairs couldn't drag it out of me!
The wheelchair hasn't moved in at least a week. It has sat there unexplained. Thoughts went through my mind about it--like how someone might feel chained to a wheelchair, yet there it is empty, chained to a tree.
Today there's a "for sale" sign on it. All is explained.

reminds me of once when we put a washing machine out on the curb for "free". We went to the store for groceries and came back to find someone had stolen the 10+ year old hoses off the machine, but left the machine. Replacements at the hardware were $12 a set, which would have done someone much better than the woeful pair they'd stolen.
I don't think anyone stole the sign. I think they just didn't put one on there until the chair had been out for a week or so. I drive by it all the time, it's on El Molino just south of Washington.
