Zen Monday: #41
Zen Monday is the day you experience the photo and give us your thoughts rather than me telling you what the photo's about.
As I post each new Zen photo, I'll add a label to last week's to identify it if necessary (and if I know what it is).
Update 3/30/09: A few days after posting, a "for sale" sign was hung on the wheelchair. As of this date, the chair is still there.

Now what kind of birthday post is THIS, you ironic and silly, wonderful woman?!
Happiest of days, beautiful Petrea. And many many many many many many more. (Minus a wheelchair.)
Life is tough!
Gosh, I thought it was only here that people had to really fasten things like that (i.e. necessary items) down.
This is a post for thought, indeed.
Happy Birthday!
An environmentalist til the day I die!!
Looks like someone's been reading too much Carl Hiassen-- in Strip Tease there's a character who's a wheelchair thief. On the other hand, the author did say he based it on an actual case
Is it your birthday? well many many happy ones to come I hope. I don't have a clue about the photo except to say that it makes me sad!

Yayo: Feliz cumpleaños, cuñada!
...watchin' my wheelchair roll away...
we told grandma that we'd tie her wheelchair down if she rolled to Bingo again to gamble her Social Security check away...
she did.
we did.
she crawled to Bingo anyway!
Birthday? Do I hear Birthday? Hippo Birdie Two Ewe!
Oh,right, I promised to be less obscure.
My response to last week's Zen was:
Sittin' on the dock o' the bay...
Decades later, when Mr. Earl visited his childhood home, he discovered that his beloved Schwinn had aged, too …
Hell on wheels
They should make a LoJack for wheelchairs.
Stephen Hawking is in the hood!
You have to leave your wheelchair somewhere when a friend takes you on a joyride in a small convertible.
Hope you're out enjoying your Birthday Petrea!
hmmm....did he park his chair and walked....a miracle.
bon anniversaire cheri!
Granny managed to escape but couldn't pick the lock to free her wheelchair.
As long as there are trees, I will always have a place to park.
Now how do I get to the door?
Stop by & say 'hi'

"What? Doesn't everyone lock up their wheels when their date takes them cruising? You should see his tandem wheel-chair."
No one is going to steal my wheelchair for a joyride again!!
Happiest of birthdays!!
That is just a downright bizarre photo. I would think that wheelchair thievery would be rather uncommon in Pasadena.
Maybe SCTV manager Guy Caballero is visiting town :>)
(In case my reference is too obscure: SCTV = Second City TV, comedy show in late 1980s)
Hope you have had an EXCELLENT birthday, Petrea!
After the second warning for speeding, Grandma's wheelchair gets the boot.
The streets of Pasadena are safe again.
Cable and Yule lock: $12.95
Manual wheelchair: $700.00
Knowing your wheels will still be there when you crawl out of the bar: Priceless.
Happy BD, Petrea!
Hey, Happy Zen Monday! And thanks for all the birthday greetings, they're much appreciated.
Laurie, I was going to answer your question by saying, "This isn't a birthday post, it's a Zen Monday post." But if it's Zen, it is what it is.
I have favorites, as I'm sure you do. Did anyone make you laugh out loud today? A couple of you got me good.
K, I suppose it depends on the neighborhood.
Ms. M, you can bet I remember SCTV.
Thank you all. Sometimes it's not easy to find a subject interesting enough, or odd enough, to qualify for Zen Monday. I get nervous when Friday rolls around and I still haven't found my shot! (Boy was I glad when I saw this wheelchair.)
I'm grateful to you all for coming here and playing. I love Zen Mondays.
Once upon a time I had to use a wheelchair but I was lucky enough to have a small one for inside the house and a portable, easy-to-fold model in my van. Maybe they wheel out to the car, chain it up and then it's waiting for them when they get back? There are wheelchairs in lots of stores nowadays. Looks like a smart move to me.
And Happy Birthday!
My God, who would still grandma's chair?
if anyone has ever been to a rest home, care home, multi-level care home...you name it, you know that chairs wander off easily. Many get tagged with names, numbers and other identifying marks.
and if you have ever been in need of using a chair, you know its value, I don't think chaining it up is unreasonable, Pasadena or elsewhere.
Looks like they stole grandma & left the chair. Be still, my octogenarian heart!
Wild wheelchairs couldn't drag it out of me!
The wheelchair hasn't moved in at least a week. It has sat there unexplained. Thoughts went through my mind about it--like how someone might feel chained to a wheelchair, yet there it is empty, chained to a tree.
Today there's a "for sale" sign on it. All is explained.
far out!
so someone stole the for sale sign?!?!?!?
Proof positive that the chair needs to be chained down!
reminds me of once when we put a washing machine out on the curb for "free". We went to the store for groceries and came back to find someone had stolen the 10+ year old hoses off the machine, but left the machine. Replacements at the hardware were $12 a set, which would have done someone much better than the woeful pair they'd stolen.
I don't think anyone stole the sign. I think they just didn't put one on there until the chair had been out for a week or so. I drive by it all the time, it's on El Molino just south of Washington.
