Blue Cottage

Surrounded by larger homes, this one might be missed. I gaze at it every time I pass it. In the three years I've been driving by I've never seen the shutters open. Maybe vampires live there, John says. Maybe someone who works nights.

The three pots on the porch speak of order. There's no clutter. The cat is well fed. Perhaps someone appreciates simplicity, privacy, and the patina of age.

Yes, I think Laurie missed this one.
Maybe someone lives here who the govt is looking for.

I agree, some paint would work wonders. Repairing or replacing the fence would be nice for street appeal too, but maybe there's no money. I like that you caught the cat.

That X up top.... OHHHH, so wonderful!

I really love this shot. The three pots. The cat. Your framing. It's marvelous.

I think a modern-day Thoreau lives there. "Our life is frittered away by detail; simplify, simplify!" said he.

This was going for $900,000 two years ago. As is.

The distressed paint doesn't bother me nearly as much as the chain-link fence. Wish I could rip that out!

AH, LOL! And it's next door to a crack house.

AH, so true! For the last year most houses as if they were for sale and I could actually buy them. Fixer-uppers are the most fun to fantasize about. If this one was mine I would plant shrubbery along the fence repaint the house, do something with the porch, put some flowers in those pots. How big is the back yard?

I disbelieve in nosferatu, but only a ghost would grow invisible flowers. I s'pose Boo had to move somewhere after his brother died …

It is a Laurie-type house, C.O., except I don't think it would be allowed in South Pas.

Thanks, Elaine, but I can't take credit. The cat caught me.

Laurie, my night-owl, thank you. I tried taking it head-on, but I like this better. Something about the garage just does it for me!

Hello, Bibi! Oh, man, I must read Thoreau. I know him only through quotes like this. He's speaking of me.

Altadenahiker! That explains it. Hiding from the mortgage lender. Or maybe the revenooer.

I don't know, Susan, it couldn't've been easy to get the fence to sway that way, but maybe a weathered picket fence would be better. I like the distressed paint on the house and garage. People pay big bucks for that look over at Shabby Chic.

Vanda, I may have to team up with the intrepid Altadenahiker to get a look at the back yard. I'm not brave enough to trespass. My guess is it's small, from the looks of the neighborhood.

Bernie, could be a ghost. Or if you mean Mr. Arthur "Boo" Radley, I've got another house in mind.

hmmm...i would rather see it like this than have it converted in to a "mcmansion"...yikes

It looks so sad and lonely. I'm glad there's a cat.

I suspect the cat is just a visitor, house looks vacant. Should have the benefit of Pasadena Neighborhood Housing Services for re-hab.

OOO, I want to see the Boo house. I have several Finch houses that are particular favorites of mine. Slightly warped front screen door required. Sure Petrea, I'll help you scout this house for Vanda.

Let me try this again.

If you want to see a real Boo Bradley house, go to 761 Boylston St Pasadena. I only have picture from the MLS listing.

It is 100 years old and in the last 50 the only upkeep it had seen was a new roof. The inside is slightly weathered.

Looks like it could use a little TLC.

Hmm... looks vacant to me - maybe that's why they have a chain-link fence. Love the shot though.

I like it. Very neat and tidy.

Reminds me of a house we regularly pass by during our walks in the neighborhood. Whoever lives there covers the windows with aluminum foil and the windows are always covered. the house could use some paint, but is otherwise kept up. The yard is mowed and tidy. Mysteries abound...

I love this photo; somehow the planters on the porch (even empty of pretty flowers) gives the house an odd lived-in feel. I walk by a neglected-looking house every day and I too wonder what's up. I did see a light on in the way back the other day; makes me even more curious!

I hope everyone inside is OK. & so glad that they have a kitty.
the house has a lovely simple shape. Sounds like a good candidate for Rebuilding Together project (volunteers paint & fix old houses but only if invited).

Interesting: Irina's a real estate expert, she says it looks vacant. Katie says it has an "odd lived-in feel." I haven't tallied, but we seem to have 50-50 here. It's a mystery. I do like the place, and I agree with Maria, it's better than a McMansion. I'll check out the spot Vanda mentioned. It's not to far from this one.

AH: Perhaps a Finch/Radley mission.

Atticus, do you think Boo Radley ever really comes and looks in my window at night? Jem says he does. This afternoon when we were over by their house...

Scout, I told you and Jem to leave those poor people alone. I want you to stay away from their house
and stop tormenting them.

Yes, sir.
