Looking Up

In yesterday's comments about smog, Lily Hydrangea said "when you are in it, you don't see it." Here's an example of the truth of that statement: a photo taken just south of the corner of Walnut and Hudson a few days ago.

Congratulations to Lily on her recent good press for Long Island Daily Photo!

All the more reason I tend to stay in denial about the air quality. (But... but... but LOOK! The sky is so blue and pretty!)

Lovely composition here, Petrea, and the colors too. I agree with Lily: recently a French friend was visiting us, and we both took photos of the sunset over the Danube. He posted his on his blog, then sent me a note to see if I noticed anything different. I pored and pored over his photo and mine and was too ashamed to say I didn't see any difference....until this a.m. and it hit me: he had Photoshopped out a very ugly building on the horizon...it was SUPER obvious, but not to me when I was "in" it.

This photo really appeals to me. I especially like the way the sky zigs and zags like a puzzle piece and the way the sky blue contrasts with the turquoise.

Looks like I need to go to LA for some fresh air. ;^)

PS Just realized another reason the colors are appealing. The turquoise is the sea and the beige is the sand. It's like being at the beach.

Laurie, me too.

Bibi, I didn't photoshop anything here but I did crop the bottom. (I don't have photoshop.) However, I usually sharpen a photo for posting online because it helps when looking at the smaller view.

Hi Susan, I like the colors--hadn't thought of beach, but maybe that was it!

Looks are deceiving, USE, that's what I'm tryinta say! Jeez. Although maybe in your case...

I like the way the buildings intersect in this photo. And I'm glad that the air is clear and the sky is blue!

You can see the current Pasadena air quality index at http://weather.weatherbug.com/CA/Pasadena-weather/air-quality.html

And the weather has been nice lately!

This photo is great because I've always found it difficult to frame sky. Great minimal (dare I say "airy"?) feel.

Wow Petrea! cool graphic design you have going on in this photo. I find the colors you have captured appealingly peaceful.
& thank you for your generous congrats!

I can see there are no colour enhancements, It's so clear and the colours so sublte. Hard to envisage this being in the midst of that smoggy haze, but that shows you that being on the outside looking, you often see the reality.

Thanks, guys.

PasadenaPIO, that's a great website. Much more detailed than Yahoo. I think we're in for some HOT days this weekend!

Babooshka, I don't have photoshop. I have a free download program called Irfanview, which I love. It's simple to use. I sometimes enhance the colors but this photo didn't need it. I almost always sharpen because in the small view on a computer screen it makes the details easier to see.
