Sensuous Curves

Rarely do I feature photos from other photographers. It's not because I don't like other peoples' photos, it's more because I figure it's my challenge to post a new photo every day. But I'm charmed by this shot by guest photographer (and husband extraordinaire) John Sandel. John is my best teacher. He's always interested in how light works with shadow. Lately he's especially interested in shooting toward the light.

I love the late-day light and shadows he captured here. I also love the lazy walk you know he's having and the air you know he feels on his face. The best, though, is that curving sidewalk. Pasadena has several of them, in older neighborhoods.

In the early 20th Century, developers in Pasadena sometimes stamped their name and the date in the sidewalks. I'll see if I can find you a sidewalk stamp for tomorrow.

Other guest photos on the blog, by Dave Thomson, can be found here and here.

During your brief MIA, I feared for the worst! Can you believe that? Cheers to your good health..I love contractor stamps. I've a collection of them.

Thank you, Palm, for the cheers! Do you have a collection of the stampers themselves, or photos of the sidewalks where they stamped?

Very cool photo by your guest photographer and husband! Actually, it's a very warm photo, as I can almost feel the sun from behind the tree. Thanks too for a good lesson on how to successfully shoot into sun!

Jealous as I am, I have to admit the photo has, um, merit.

He is good, isn't he? Katie, you mentioned a lesson, and although I didn't say it, it shows: he used the tree in concert with the sun to create the effect he wanted. I like it.

He has produced a lovely soft nuanced image indeed. Makes one want to peer into the shadows. Nice working of the light while retaining the detail in the mysterious parts.
