Tête-à-Tête

Goorin Bros. Hat Shop on Colorado Blvd. in Old Town

"What do you think of the Homburg?"

"It makes you look old. Try the Porkpie."

"And?"

"Tip it back. That's nice. Very you. Okay, take a look at this. Can I get away with a Gaucho?"

"No you cannot. Here."

"I'm not wearing a top hat!"

"Okay, here."

"I'm not wearing a beret, either! What's that?"

"That, my friend, is called a Fedora."

"I thought it was called a 'dad hat.'"

"In some circles."

"Sold."

  1. Those cops—that palm—the sun-baked brick … this goes in the Annals of Classic Posts. Love it.

  5. I'm glad you all like the pic. I almost didn't post it because I didn't shoot it with the Canon and it didn't have all the details I wanted.

They may have known I was taking their picture. I took several shots, trying to get a clear one without passing cars in it.

I am going to have to go into that store. Haven't been yet, but Kat Ward did a nice piece about it on Hometown Pasadena.

  6. I thought that was you and John talking. He seems like a fedora-wearing kind of a guy.

  7. I've never seen John in a hat.

    You had to...what?

  8. Why the double police guard outside? Had they had a tip-off that the notorious Oak Knoll Hat Gang were planning a raid?

  15. Ha! I like your idea, jmgrimes. Maybe if we're lucky, at the next Litfest we'll have it performed by a pair of Pasadena's Finest.

  16. Love a man in a hat!!! TheChief wears an Irish sporting cap, a great LiteFelt cowboy type hat...not to mention a police cap upon occasion!!!

Side note...his son wears hats frequently...a bit more hip...and quite good looking if I do say so myself!!!

  17. Your Chief will surely sympathize with my fantasy of these guys wanting something other than a helmet.

  18. Hat!
I am not one of those who believes all a police officer eats is doughnuts. If they're going to chase bad guys they need a decent sandwich and some coffee. Ice cream too, maybe. Some chocolate. An occasional beer.
